I often get tagged in posts or sent photos and messages in private that refs ask me to repost.
Some people genuinely want to make a change for the better (pardon the pun) but don’t feel they can do it publicly, I understand and respect that.
One subject for grassroots refs, is changing rooms or lack there of.
There are some incredible clubs who really look after refs and there are some who just feel refs are a “necessary evil” of the game.
Some probably don’t realise there is a problem.
On a weekend of terrible weather across the U.K, it’s interesting to receive photos of some of the spaces referees are asked to change in.
Recruiting and retaining refs has many challenges, some are obvious and some less so.
If you are attached to a Football team please ask yourself if you would be inspired to carry on giving up your time on weather like we currently have, to be met with these facilities.
I would love to have some form of competition to “win a Refs changing room makeover” to shine a light on a problem that could be solved with just a little more TLC.
Anyone in the industry who would like to be involved in a game changing idea, helping a registered charity make a difference, please get in touch.
