DRDO started the preliminary paper design work of MIRV since 1990. To convert basic Agni5 into an MIRVed version it requires a lot of changes. DRDO have to develop Post Boost Vehicle( PBV) on which MIRVs are integrated. PBV has to maneuvered, has to be separated from the main missile, has to be maneuvered independently and at different points of flights PBV has to release different warheads in the right direction with right orientation and with right velocity at an accuracy of less than 10cm/s to get an accuracy of 100m (CEP). Achieving this is a very challenging task. PBV should achieve very smooth separation, very exact orientation, monitoring & imparting of the requisite velocity and then releasing the warhead.
