After the quantum leap that occurred at the beginning of the 90s in the area of maritime communications, leaving behind the “modern” satellite navigation, which allowed us to fix a position on the old navigation charts, by satellite means, two to four hours (approximately) in the best of cases... the new concepts were not long in coming: MMSI, Digital Selective Calling (DSC), among others… technological advances that led our radiotelegraph colleagues to transform their profession in a resilient way towards any other activity that contributes to maritime activity... new equipment that made maritime communication a more useful, safer, faster and more effective tool... that's how we said goodbye to old Morse. Now the IMO gives a touch of modernity to the GMDSS and in a few days we will have an important amendment to SOLAS Chapter IV. Do you know what it's about?
