Since 2007, Seoul has been on an extraordinary path toward the technology revolution: in just 10 years it has reached the "scaleup" stage. In 2023, a total of 1,198 scaleups (startups able to raise over $1 million in funding) were registered, making Seoul 13th on the Global Scale of the most innovative ecosystems and placing it one step away from the "star" stage that characterizes ecosystems with over 1,200 scaleups. A large concentration of these scaleups forms the epicenter of an intense technology and investment hub. This unprecedented transformation has been made possible by considerable government policies to support start-ups. And again, substantial government funds allocated to support research and development have pushed companies to explore new technological horizons, creating fertile ground for innovation and discovery. The evident positive outcome of the government support in Seoul demonstrates the significant transformative potential resulting from investments for new businesses and research and development. The South Korean experience can serve as a source of inspiration for Italy in pursuing similar strategies, opening the way for greater economic growth and technological development in the country.
