MY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE FIELD OF HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT IN FOCUS My active involvement in Professional CIPM Membership Development programs in Abuja between the year 2011-2014 in foçus In all honesty, my success in the field of Human Capital Development is not accidental but Intentional. As a Certified Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) since 17th November 2011 when I was inducted as an Associate Member with membership no 3/1100658 till date, my quest for more knowledge has been on the increase. In the course of my Leadership journey in life, I have come to discover that improving yourself is the first step to improving everything about your entire life. In the light of above, I am in total agreement with John C. Maxwell who posited that Personal and Professional Improvement and Development is within the reach of anyone, no matter how experienced or green, educated or ignorant, rich or poor you are. In summary, to start improving yourself today, do these three things: (1) Decide you are worth improving upon. (2) Pick an area to improve upon. (3) Take practical actions towards improving yourself on a continuous basis. In all, be Strategic and Intentional about your Personal and Professional Development in life.

There is a proverb or ‘whakatauki’ which is used in the Māori language of New Zealand… ”He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata!” What is the most important thing in the world…it is people, it is people, it is people! Each year in an international school we welcome new members into our community, and it is one of the final steps in the most important job that we have as school leaders. The process of filtering, interviewing, selection and onboarding usually commenced months ago, quite often remotely, and the final stages of making sure each of the new joiners immediately buy into and become a part of the culture of your school starts from day 1. People, and I think teachers in particular, sniff out a lack of authenticity with ease. So as a leader, the care, professionalism and giving of yourself to the welcoming of new team members has to be authentic and come from the belief that each of them is ready to bring their best self. The ‘whakatauki’/ proverb highlights the fact that relationships, connections, values and inspiration are at the heart of building a flourishing community. At The Arbor School Dubai its not down to luck that we are building a culture of human and ecological flourishing, it is deliberate. So what is the most important thing - it is the people, it is the people, it is the people!

Global Talent Acquisition || Talent Sourcer || Technical Recruiter || Trainer || Speaker || SDG 4 Advocate
4 months after, as I complete my post-training job impact assessment form, I can’t help but reflect on the memories. In April, I completed a Management Development Program at Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University The training was a customized development program with an immersive and rounded curriculum to ensure employee work readiness, capacity development and cater to the diverse professional competencies required across all business functions. With various business case studies, individual and group presentations etc., I learnt that there is the business world and there is the “Nigerian Business World”, where things are unique and done differently. I gained real-life perspective, and insight as to how business leaders think and make decisions(sometimes very difficult ones), often times, as employees we question management’s decisions,it is important to see ourselves as a manager/business partner, regardless of the position we hold and how what we do and not do affect the growth of the organization. The learning never stops, and as I continue to apply the knowledge acquired, best believe I’m still hungry for more. Oh, between I miss those early morning coffee cups 😀, they were made with love to keep you going.

Despite 3 out of 4 public organizations seeking corporate training that integrates executive venues with adventure, finding an institute that fully aligns with their demands remains a challenge. We understand how executive leadership value their training environment and the need for added adventure experiences shouldn’t be a request but a demand. Research also indicates that 87% of employees in the public sector feel valued and motivated when institutions offer them adventure opportunities alongside their work and learning experiences. Understanding the unique needs of executive leaders has been a journey for us. These leaders carry themselves with a sense of importance and value their training environment. They want executive space that resonates with their professional stature. Public corporations are also increasingly leaning towards providing their employees with training experiences in executive places that blend learning with adventure. Yes, that right! It’s about having an environment that motivates and makes employees to feel valued. The combination of learning and adventure is really a powerful motivator. It communicates to employees that their organization values their efforts and cares about their overall well-being. Our dedication to understanding and meeting the unique demands of executive corporate leadership has led us to expand our offerings and locations. Through a blend of executive training venues and adventure experiences, we aim to meet the preferences of public organizations to create a learning environment that leaves fully satisfies our participants. We now boast of diverse and dynamic training locations like Dubai, Accra, Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Naivasha, Cape Town, Pretoria, and Johannesburg, Dar-es-Salaam, Kigali, Kampala, and Arusha. We've also introduced regular breaks during our training sessions, allowing participants to recharge every two hours of learning. We understand that a well-balanced approach enhances focus and engagement, leading to better overall learning outcomes. Striking the right balance between intensive learning sessions and rejuvenating breaks is our way of optimizing the training experience for executive leaders and their teams.
