I would like to share our recent work, "Divergent effects of visual interfaces on teleoperation for challenging jobsite environments," published in Automation in Construction. Teleoperators often face challenges in maintaining situational awareness due to the dynamic nature of construction sites, which can lead to decreased performance and increased safety risks. This paper examines how different visual interfaces impact teleoperators in these challenging work environments, offering valuable insights for designing user-centered, intuitive, and task-specific teleoperation interfaces. The study involved experiments with 33 industry-experienced participants, focusing on the human factors critical to effective teleoperation. Today we published a paper on experiences from working with #cyberphysicalsystems in #industryacademiacollaboration in the very nice Wiley Software: Practice and Experience journal. 🍾🌟🎓 In the paper we cover experiences in the AIDOaRt research project. We present five challenging areas (#data, #modeling, #requirementsengineering, continuous software and system engineering, as well as intelligence and automation). We highlight practical experience in collaboration from the project via the Westermo Network Technologies and Volvo Construction Equipment cases. My favorite part is Table 1 with #lessonslearned. Based on previous research and our experiences we recommend: joint problem formulation, joint work on solution, and to plan for continued work past the project. Authors are: Johan Cederbladh, Romina Eramo, Vittoriano Muttillo and me. DOI-link: https://lnkd.in/dngChFdD

Reviewing our recent research contributions two which we hadn’t gotten around to reading in full until recently are Architecture and Design for Industry 4.0 Theory and Practice where our Lotus Aeroad tensegrity was heavily featured and Industry 4.0 for the Built Environment Methodologies, Technologies and Skills where we contributed to a paper on Advanced Applications in Computational Design kindly authored by Peter Debney. Both are on Springer and include some amazing work by international academics and practitioners. Recommended. https://lnkd.in/edQpGiQA https://lnkd.in/eNFnR3J8 https://lnkd.in/e8yv3YAn #research #researchanddevelopment #researchpublication #structuralengineering #tensegrity #computationaldesign

First day of the symposium has been fantastic. Never underestimate the power of collaboration and space to create a mutual language and meeting of minds. So many impressionable moments and interactions. The video is based on 3D Systems Mapping technique. Our focus was using the pieces to represent and map the elements and relations to the current energy systems within Colombia. We were able to explore many facets of the topic on Universidad de Antioquia #EngineeringX #FrontiersDev #EnergyTransition #SystemsApproaches

Provocative piece on Geo-engineering tech and #climatechange from the Beeb today... https://lnkd.in/ecS6PPaj Reminded me of our Imagination Lancaster #designresearch paper for the European Academy of Design back in 2021. It talked a bit about the possible risks of Geo-engineering/Terraforming and later presented a combo of physical #designfiction prototyping to further the discussion. https://lnkd.in/e7_M8Me4

Starting the ideation process. It's been interesting to get back into a project after furthering my skills in my final unit at university, looking at the project in a different way. Whilst I want to improve the content on the site, I also want to improve some structural elements that came up in my research today. Adding a Header and Footer, keeping with the current design system is a feature I really want to implement. The Unleashed Power of the Atom | toms-microsite.webflow.io

We just posted an arXiv preprint on experimental characterization of error budgeting of parametric resonance entangling gates on a tunable coupler architecture. We identified and characterized different error sources which we broadly categorized as coherent (including leakage, phase and amplitude and incoherent errors (including relaxation and dephasing processes) that limits fidelities of two-qubit gates. We developed a method to quantify these errors using easy-to-use analytical expressions that incorporates measured phases, and coherence times under gate operating conditions. As an example, we considered parametric resonance CZ gates enacted between flux-tunable qubits and characterized the contribution of each error source to the total error rate of the gate. The method can be applied beyond parametric resonance gates, and is a useful tool in understanding the underlying constraints on the performance of two-qubit gates.
