Did you know that many children with blindness have perfectly healthy eyes? Instead, their blindness is caused by damage to the visual processing areas of the brain, known as cortical/cerebral visual impairment (CVI). Together with Perkins School for the Blind, we mapped out data on CVI in the US and overlayed it with county-level data on various social risk factors—and found an undercount of at least 156,000 cases.
