Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA)’s Post

ARENA is funding the roll out of community batteries to service Australian neighborhoods.    ARENA CEO Darren Miller joined Ausgrid CEO Marc England and Minister Chris Bowen at the launch, held in Sydney's Bexley North today.    $143 million will go towards delivering 370 batteries to locations across NSW, VIC, SA, QLD, TAS and NT.    ARENA's Community Battery Funding supports the integration of renewable energy in the grid. The batteries store excess energy from rooftop solar generation for later use within local homes and businesses.    Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gyZqcdap #ARENA #RenewableEnergy #CommunityBatteries #Solar

I am pleased to read that "The range of energy consumers that will benefit from these batteries include households, hospitals, schools and tertiary education institutions, council facilities, housing developments, social and community housing, sports facilities, libraries, aquatic centres, shopping centres, and regional and remote communities." Does calling them "community batteries" mean that these batteries will be run by the community for the community, and all financial returns will benefit the community?

great there will be even more neighbourhood batteries on the networks across the country! keen to see the community consultation, as there are lots of residents and communities out there who are very interested in this space 😀
