Through our Ardagh for Education initiative and our partnership with Wissensfabrik - Unternehmen für Deutschland e.V. we are proud to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education for students in primary and secondary schools in the 13 communities across Germany in which we operate. Colleagues from our Weissenthurm production facility recently joined in on in the promotion of STEM subjects when they hosted a group of students for 'Girls Day' with the theme 'IT2School'. Girls from several local schools collaborated with the Weissenthurm team to programme a miniature calliope and even build an alarm system. An overview of our apprenticeship programme was followed by a behind-the-scenes look at our production operation. Our team was delighted to introduce Ardagh - and give a glimpse into the world of manufacturing - to such a talented and committed group of young women. #GirlsDay #IT #CalliopeMini #Training #Production #WomenInTech #AMP #Wissensfabrik #STEM

🚀 Celebrating Women in Engineering: #EnhancedbyEngineering 🚀 This Sunday, 23rd June, marks a day of inspiration and recognition for International Women in Engineering Day. We’re thrilled to highlight the incredible women who are propelling our Property Maintenance team to new heights with their expertise and passion. 🛠️💪 🌟 Meet Amy Hopkinson, a shining star among our Maintenance Technicians. Her journey is a testament to the power of determination and ingenuity. 🌟 Why should women be engineers? 'I am an only child brought up by a disabled single mother, and I had very few male role models to look up to. It was difficult as if there was a problem it usually meant I had to figure it out myself. In maintenance terms, even if we had to put a picture frame up it meant a lot of broken drill bits and subsequently learning how to patch up a lot of holes in the wall (sorry mum!). But this meant I was able to become my own role model I would have needed growing up. If there is a problem I will always give it a go which is what any engineering department is at its core, and a lot of women have this ability to analyse an issue or think about how something can be improved and act on it.' Why Tesco? 'I joined as a Tesco Maintenance apprentice. Tesco apprenticeships were offering a higher starting salary, which was such a huge point for me as I had already moved out from home and as we all do, had bills to pay. Because Tesco offered more than most, it meant I was able to start studying while working and still support myself.' Advice for Aspiring Female Engineers: Amy’s message is clear: “Just go for it.” If you’re passionate about problem-solving, you’re already on the right path. Embrace the learning curve; every day brings new challenges and opportunities to expand your technical skills. Join us in celebrating these remarkable women who are enhancing lives through engineering. 💡 #PropertyProud #TescoProperty #Maintenance #TescoCareers Amy Hopkinson

Just saw this quick piece about the Finger Lakes Youth Apprenticeship Program's (FLYAP) Women in Manufacturing Summit and wanted to highlight it here, as there can't be too many examples of initiatives like this ✨ Serving the FLYAP's mission to connect women to apprenticeships and careers in manufacturing, their recent event brought together 100 students and educators to highlight opportunities within manufacturing, the critical and innovative perspectives women bring to the field (and all fields let's be real), and the importance of building an inclusive workforce. Women make up 50% of the workforce but only 29% of the manufacturing workforce. Addressing this significant industry gender disparity is a must for many reasons. It can unlock the full potential of the workforce, build a more equitable and resilient future for the industry, and empower generations of women with leadership and skill development, career advancement, and financial independence.

🌟International Women’s Day 2024 🌟 International Women’s day serves as an excellent platform to raise the conversation surrounding the lack of diversity within our industry and initiate meaningful discussions on how we can inspire future generations and foster an environment where everyone can thrive. In a male dominated environment it’s crucial to focus on promoting diversity and increasing the representation of women within the plastics & manufacturing industry. This means encouraging women to take on leadership roles to act role models and inspire others to think about a career in this industry. By actively engaging girls and young women from an early age through apprenticeships & college or university courses we can create a more inclusive workforce in the injection moulding industry. #iwd2024 #iwd2024womenleadingtheway

On Sunday 23 June, we'll be celebrating International Women in Engineering Day. This year’s theme is #Enhancedbyengineering and I'm really proud to share some of our fabulous female talent across our Maintenance team #propertyproud #tescoproperty #maintenance Amy Hopkinson is one of our amazing Maintenance Technicians. Here's her story... Why should women be engineers and how did you get into it? I am an only child brought up by a disabled single mother, and I had very few male role models to look up to. If there is a problem I will always give it a go which is what any engineering department is at its core, and a lot of women have this ability to analyse an issue or think about how something can be improved and act on it. Because Tesco offered more than most, it meant I was able to start studying while working and still support myself. Do you have any advice for any women considering a role in engineering? Just go for it. If you have an interest in problem-solving you’re already halfway there. The experience you will gain in technical abilities will come as you learn. I am still learning something new every day three years later and I don’t expect that to change any time soon!
