Injection Molding Hard & Soft Spatulas One highlight at the Technology Days 2024 is the processing of thermoplastic (PCB) and liquid silicone (LSR) to create two-component spatulas that are safe for use with food, such as those used for home baking. An ALLROUNDER MORE 2000 with two electric injection units is used. First, the handle is injection molded from PCB using the size 170 vertical injection unit. An index unit rotates the pre-molded part into the second station, where the soft spatula component made of self-adhesive LSR is added using a size 400 horizontal injection unit. The two components are injected directly and with no waste via a cold or hot runner system. A MULTILIFT V 30 linear robotic system performs the handling tasks. Injection compression molding IML thin-walled cups in 3.95 seconds. In a cycle time of 3.95 seconds, an ‘ULTIMATE’ ALLROUNDER 720 A can produce IML thin-walled cups with a wall thickness of just 0.37 millimeters. Thanks to a new all-electric packaging machine working in combination with Injection Compression Moulding (ICM), the energy footprint has improved by 20 percent, and the component weight has dropped significantly from 13 to 10.8 grams. The IML product can be recycled by type after use because the special “Next Cycle IML” label can be completely separated from the cup’s PP during recycling.
