⚡️ Exploring the triple bottom line: affordability, sustainability, and relevance. Today's refining and petrochemical industry faces the challenge of balancing the cost of sustainability against tangible returns, particularly in developing markets. As we integrate clean energy solutions like green hydrogen, biofuels, and SAF into existing refinery infrastructures, we're reshaping the landscape of energy production. With COP28 driving the phase-out of fossil fuels, the question arises: How does our industry adapt and remain relevant in this evolving energy landscape? Big Oil’s sustainability transition: What’s the future for S’pore’s energy sector? Summary: The energy sector in Singapore is at a crossroads, with major industry players considering significant changes due to growing pressure for sustainability. Shell is currently evaluating the viability of its plants on Pulau Bukom and Jurong Island, a move which has sparked discussion about whether the company might sell or decommission its plants. Meanwhile, ExxonMobil, despite facing similar sustainability pressures, remains committed to its operations in Singapore and has announced a multibillion-dollar project to produce lubricant base stocks expected to launch in 2025. The shift towards sustainability is seen by the Economic Development Board (EDB) as a promising opportunity for growth in Singapore's energy and chemicals sector. As the world moves towards a lower-carbon economy, sectors such as energy and chemicals need to innovate and transform. Mr. Damian Chan, Executive Vice-President of the EDB, commented that Singapore aims to achieve its climate goals by both decarbonising existing industries and fostering growth in the green economy. While we work towards net zero, fossil fuel exploitation and subsequent use in assets including vehicles can always be better managed by more efficient engines. AT SOME POINT IN TIME, HYBRID AS A MODEL FOR FUEL USAGE/ENERGY PRODUCTION WILL ALLOW A STRADDLED BALANCE OF BOTH RESOURCE USAGE AND RESIDUE WASTE MANAGEMENT. ESG AS A CONCEPT IS GREAT BUT PRAGMATISM REQUIRES A BLENDED SOLUTION TO BE SUSTAINABLE, PREDICTABLE,RELIABLE,REUSABLE, RENEWABLE WITHOUT DISRUPTING EXISTING SKILLSET USAGE. 🙏

“IHI and Vopak sign MOU for joint study on #AMMONIA terminal development and supply of various #HYDROGEN derivatives” “IHI Corporation and Royal Vopak have signed a MOU to jointly explore the development and operation of efficient, high value-added #ammoniaterminals in Japan. IHI and Vopak will furthermore assess a collaboration outside of Japan.” “The collaboration focuses on large-scale #ammoniastorageterminals, strategically positioned for the economical distribution of ammonia.” “Ammonia plays an important role as a fuel for reducing #carbonemissions from #thermalpowergeneration and as a #hydrogencarrier, both in Japan and abroad.
