Where are you not taking your own advice? My company Viscera Studio is a 4-day workweek company with a self-managed time-off policy (some people call it unlimited). And even though prioritizing rest and life-work balance are core values we have put in practice for the company, I found myself feeling guilt for taking vacation most of last week. As founders, it can be really challenging to take our own advice. In leadership roles, we fight fiercely for our clients and the people who work for us, but end up giving ourselves the short end of the stick. But this is a reminder that not taking our own advice is both impractical and unsustainable-- we have to live up to the words that we speak. Coming back to to work today after my 5-day weekend, I'm feeling great. I got to the beach (twice!), made new art, and am returning to my staff with fresh ideas and perspectives that will enable our growth. So, my question for you is -- where are you not taking your own advice? And how can you start to listen to your own expertise?

This piece of paper I recently earned represents a turning point in my life and my career. After passing the licensing exam, and shedding a few tears of relief, I’ve been able to reflect on what the last year has meant to me. 1.) How fortunate I am that Vanessa Kinney and Chris Godley afforded me an opportunity to relaunch my career with an amazing company Hylant. I’ve finally found a home at a company that lives by the code of allowing for a very positive work life balance. 2.) How I can overcome things that I once thought were insurmountable. Starting a new job, learning about an entirely new industry, and studying for and passing the industry’s state licensing exam - all in 12 months. 😅 3.) How privileged I am to have an incredible support system in the office and at home.

This is certainly worth considering.
