That was AIX and EBACE… Good to be back home, but also glad to complete my mini-Euro tour. It was fantastic to attend both shows, meet with old and new friends, contacts, and clients. AIX in Hamburg, was as big and busy as it normally is. Generally, a good show to visit and you will bump into a lot of people and Hamburg is always a great city to see. As has seemed to be prevalent over the last decade or so, the bug guys, I’m thinking the big tier 1 and seating suppliers like to create their own little castles that dominate the halls. These tend to overshadow the smaller, equality critical, tier 2 suppliers that are the life blood of the industry, to the extent that it can be hard to find the people you really want to see. EBACE in Geneva was great. I love going there especially the old town, but the show was small without the attendance of many of the big guys. I’m sure being staged at the same time as AIX wouldn’t have helped, but there certainly seemed to be some negativity around the show - Not specifically about the industry, but the show. Geneva is expensive, hotels are ridiculous and the cheaper options, still expensive, were probably the same as they were in the 1970’s! Also, there was a lot of talk and rumours about different destinations for the future, good place to visit though and always nice to be around Lake Geneva, let’s see… All the same it was really good to meet old and new friends with good discussions around current and future projects. Sometimes if the show is small then you can find more time to spend with the people that really matter and have good meaningful discussions, instead of just fleeting conversations between meetings. I always thought that museums are #hypermedia. Congrats ICOM National Committee in Georgia and ICOM MPR to bring this subject on the agenda: if museums want to be relevant they must finally learn to communicate at every level. But mainly they must have something to say. Moreover as I was discussing with Deborah Ziska in Zlarin: willy-nilly museums are political instruments. The museum leaders must take a stance and decide where they want to stay: the museum-hypermedia do help to vehiculate the message. Wow, I loved this project...🍗🔥 As many of us know, sometimes as an event marketer you have to 'step into' the role of graphic designer/video editor (thank you Canva). I had such a vision for this, but no idea where to even begin executing it. Teasing a panel that nods to such a viral sensation like 'Hot Ones', naturally I wanted to do it justice. A part of me was praying they would release a free version of Sora AI today, so it could do it for me 😂 However that got me thinking, can AI still help? It might not be able to generate the video, but could it at least get me off my feet with this idea? So, I put in a full editors brief into ChatGPT. The panel we were teasing, the release dates, location, style we wanted. I gave it all. I also added that we would need to make this on Canva. This AI spit out a full step by step guide, on how to execute this purely through Canva for me. It gave me a script, it gave me timings for each frame, it gave me recommendations for stock footage, sound effects. I was completely blown away. The thing is, is that though it was super helpful, it still wasn't perfect. It had allowed me to jump start this little video, but I knew we could do more. For example, I wanted the neon signage at the end, but also wanted to give it that 'flicker' like you see on the show. I asked my colleague GPT to help, and in seconds it gave me a step by step guide, on exactly where I could find that style and how I could animate every frame effectively to achieve what I wanted, as a sort of 'Canva work around'. It's actually blown my mind. But, it's also reassured me. Even with AI's new capabilities, we will always rely on people to bring their own creativity to a project. There was so much it helped me to execute, but the ideas were still my own. And I love that. AI continues to be a HOT topic, so I hope to keep the conversation going at our ELX Annual Congress this year... Can't wait to see all our members again in Las Vegas soon! 👀☀️ P.S.
