These past few months I have worked a lot on the media side. The beauty of being a system administrator is working with different IT infrastructures and I have been working a lot with media lately. It seems straight forward but it is far from that, the most difficult aspect of media for me must be SOUND! The most important part of media too is the sound because if you have a crystal-clear video but a messy sound you have completely lost a large part of your audience because most of the time it’s what the person is saying that keeps you glued at least in the academic side of things. I have been working with software like Vmix, OBS Studio and Davinci Resolve. Honestly, at the beginning of finding my bearings in the media world, I liked OBS Studio because of its simplicity but when I introduced other equipment like the Lapel Mics, handheld mics, table mics, Sound mixer, Sound Card, Speakers, Cameras and other functionalities like desktop capturing, extending your feed to teams and so on, I realised Vmix is just better and gives me what I want and even more. Davinci Resolve which I use in compiling my videos and adding some little touches here and there. I can’t say much about this because I don’t use most of its functionality. This is where I play my recordings, merge videos, and do general editing. I found out your sound and video could be good when you’re recording live but the recording playback doesn’t give you the feeling of how things went and you guessed right, SOUND! You keep wondering where this break happened, I was there and it was fine. Also, do you know you could be recording and if you don’t configure it right you won’t get sound but just video, thank God I experienced this during my test and know what to look out for.😌 Now I analyse sound differently sometimes when I watch a video and I will be like “Nah”, they used too much GAIN here and so on. This made me appreciate the core media folks out there, I take my hat off for you guys it is not easy!!🫡 Sneak peek Video from one of our hybrid sessions with clients.

The video below shows a series of video game concepts that I designed audio for and implemented into a program called Wwise that places audio in the game as a part of a school project at Full Sail University. These sounds were either recorded by me using a handheld Zoom H5 recorder and random household items that were then imported into a DAW and manipulated to achieve a particular sound, or I utilized synthesizers and manipulated the sound using flangers, frequency plugins, automation, and pitch correction. The first project demonstrates the sound of powerups. The second project demonstrates the sound of a pressed button, the access granted sound, and the pull of a lever. The third project shows the sound of a cave filled with flowing lava. The fourth project shows a series of portals that behaves different from one another but has the same purpose. The last project demonstrates what seems to be a laser firing explosive projectiles at a wall. Some of these sounds are one shots such as project one, two, five, and the teleport sound in project four, while others are continuous loops such as project three and the portal sounds from project four. Overall, this was a fun month of learning new skills and understanding how to create one shots and seamless loops from audio that I recorded on my own.

In this video we see how to setup the AudioSource component to get 3D sounds in Unity, this means that the position of the camera affect the volume of the AudioSource and also if you hear the sound louder on your right or left speaker. You can hear sounds in Unity because in the scene there is a component called "AudioListener", this component comes by default with the Main Camera. The AudioSources on the other hand are the speakers of the scene, they produce sound, but by default you hear the sound as if you have the source of the audio directly in front of you. To get a spatial sound you need to setup the "Spatial Blend" parameter of the AudioSource in "3D" and adjust the 3D sound settings. Recently, we stumbled upon the Apple #WWDC2017 video and were struck by its brilliance, especially in the world of sound design. At Drilu, we understand the fundamental role sound plays in enhancing visual content, and this video brilliantly exemplifies this understanding. What impressed us most was the subtlety and finesse with which sound was integrated. Each click and musical note was not just a casual addition but a carefully calculated piece of the narrative. In an age where user experience defines success, such attention to sound is not just commendable but necessary. The video reaffirms what we, at Drilu, have always believed - sound is not just an afterthought, but a fundamental part of the user experience. It adds depth, emotion, and a layer of connection that visuals alone cannot achieve. As businesses strive for meaningful engagement, recognizing the potential of sound is essential. Whether it’s a click, a swoosh, or a background melody, these elements are the often-underappreciated components of creativity, transforming ordinary content into something extraordinary. We invite you to watch the video and experience firsthand the seamless fusion of sound and visuals courtesy of Hugo Verweij. After watching, we'd love to hear your thoughts. Please feel free to share your comments and insights. Let's start a conversation about the impact of sound in design and how it shapes our digital experiences. If you're curious about how the right sound can enhance your brand or project, we're here to help. Let's explore the world of sound design together. #JoinTheSonicRevolution #Sound #SoundDesign #UserExperience #CreativeEnhancement #Drilu
