Things I used to hear a lot from HR pros:
📢 “Laura, I can’t believe I need your help filling an HR role on my own team. I’m embarrassed to have to call you for help.”
📢”I just try and do it all myself, I barely trust my own team and can’t really delegate.”
📢”I can’t imagine investing in L&D for our own HR team. We aren’t worthy of that kind of budget. We’re just a cost center.”
📢”We work in HR. We should know how to do it all. Plug and play. Hit the ground running. It’s the only way. No time for development. ”
😬
Things I hear now instead from HR pros:
🎙️”Laura, we need your help filling an open HR role on our team! Excited to partner with you and learn with you.”
🎙️”I’ve gotten much better at delegation and building trusting relationships on my team. It’s made a world of difference for them and for me.”
🎙️”We invest in L&D for our own team and practice what we preach to other departments! HR is ever-evolving and we’re curious and eager to keep improving.”
🎙️”Being in HR means we’re worthy of receiving what we offer the rest of the company and development matters to us! We’re imperfect and recognize we have our own areas for growth.”
🥰
This shift from—- resistance to receiving —-is remarkable and transforming the profession immensely. There is no shame in receiving help. In fact, it’s the stronger, more confident and more strategic way to be. I’m so delighted to bear witness to this transition in recent years 💖
