Brace for impact! With CVS set to release their earnings report tomorrow morning, alongside Humana, the atmosphere is tense. This follows their strategic acquisition of Signify in March for $8 billion, and Oak Street in May for $10.6 billion, marking their ambitious journey towards establishing payor-agnostic services. Signify brings a fresh wave of in-home health innovation, while Oak Street offers a senior-centric primary care model promoting capitated agreements, perfectly aligned with the growth of MAPD/Medicare. Impressive earnings from industry peers like UnitedHealth Group, Elevance/Anthem, and Centene have set the bar high. However, the recent announcement of a 5,000 job reduction just before earnings, sparks a note of caution. Stay tuned for updates. #CVS #earningsreport #healthcareindustry #pharmacy #pbm #medicare #marketaccess

BREAKING - OPTUM, SSM HEALTH END ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIP AFTER LESS THAN TWO YEARS. St. Louis-based SSM Health and UnitedHealth Group's Optum have ended their administrative partnership around inpatient care management, digital transformation and revenue cycle management. The health system declined to provide any additional information when asked on January 3rd. The partnership was announced in October 2021 and formally began in early 2022. The deal included the hiring of some SSM employees by Optum. "We don't have the capability to do everything — no one does," SSM President and CEO Laura Kaiser told Becker's in 2021. "And so we started, as part of our strategy, to look for partners and how do we not duplicate, but rather collect and lean in together to get farther down the road." Hospitals and health systems that have previously outsourced administrative functions to Optum include Waukesha, Wis.-based ProHealth Care; Cooperstown, N.Y.-based Bassett Healthcare Network; Greenbrae, Calif.-based MarinHealth; Boulder (Colo.) Community Health; Walnut Creek, Calif.-based John Muir Health; Brewer, Maine-based Northern Light Health; Owensboro (Ky.) Health; and Tacoma, Wash.-based Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. #Optum #UnitedHealthcare #SSMHealth #administrativefunctions #endofrelationship #termination #Florida #AHCA #

Part of our role in the healthcare industry is making connections between patients and families and healthcare workers. How do we do that? By helping our employees find their why. For Dwight W. McBee, Senior Vice President, Health Equity & Chief Experience Officer at Jefferson Health, his purpose has always been clear, even through challenging moments. “To get people re-engaged we have to go back to the 'why'. It's an old cliche, but it really is one of the most powerful things we can do. The quickest way to get to the 'why' is to talk to our patients and find ways to get our families to meaningfully engage with our workforce." Listen here to learn more about how he entered the field and how he’s pushing his team to be their best every day. 🎧 https://hubs.li/Q02GNxTs0 #momentsmoveus #healthcare #wambi

Employers' greatest concern with virtual care is the "siloed care experience" — the fragmentation of virtual and in-person care. That is a core problem we are solving at Caire. By bringing together health systems as partners for in-person care, we can create a much better experience for patients and employers Thomas Santo, MD Richard Mulry John Beadle https://lnkd.in/ecWyTKmW

Case Study: Best-In-Class Onboarding Sparks Improved Retention and Performance In a fee-for-service or value-based healthcare environment, effective hospitalist programs have become essential in improving patient satisfaction, reducing length of stay and readmissions, and achieving population health goals. Additionally, referring physician engagement and satisfaction are key performance drivers and indicators of success. Yet, high turnover among hospitalists is typical for many programs and constitutes a multi-million dollar opportunity. Here's what we are following this week at HealthLeaders ahead of July 4: #Workforce woes are on every health leader’s mind, but strategies for fixing them are sparse (see my last post on Netflix’s workforce strategy for even more on this one! https://lnkd.in/ecuFJqhM). But, when it comes to coders, between the ongoing workforce shortages and the level of expertise needed for the role, the talent pool of qualified candidates is even smaller. Luckily, my friend Tami McMasters Gomez, director of coding and CDI program at UC Davis Health, saw an opportunity to address these challenges while integrating a cause close to her heart: Helping #neurodiverse individuals find fulling careers. Also this week, #ProspectMedialHoldings has been given the go-ahead by Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha to sell two safety net hospitals to #TheCenturionFoundation, but only if the organization jumps through about 40 hoops. Easy enough? (https://lnkd.in/etCjYhvH). In addition, our CFO editor Marie DeFreitas was following three large trends that came out of last week's #HFMAAnnualConference; #AI implementation, feuding with big #pharma, and the alarming rise in commercial payer #denials (https://lnkd.in/ekyvM2fr). Even more today, top clinical officers at Allegheny Health Network, UW Health, and Houston Methodist have made #physicianwellness a primary focus, and they're seeing results (https://lnkd.in/efd235cG). A new poll shows patients are embracing #hospitalathome as a preferred care venue (https://lnkd.in/ei33jQYy), and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says it will launch a new rule to address certain "highly suspect" claims (https://lnkd.in/eGqS69GR). In national healthcare news, a newly approved #Alzheimer's drug could fundamentally change the treatment strategies for the disease (https://lnkd.in/eWF6CXGd), major retail pharmacies are feeling the effects of online competition (https://lnkd.in/e4f3rAmW), and the President calls on Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly and Company to lower the cost of their weight-loss medications (https://lnkd.in/e8w8M5eg). It was a short but BUSY week in healthcare. I hope you enjoy some time off this week, and we will see you on Monday! Don't forget to subscribe: https://lnkd.in/eqAF4kMR
