I had the privilege of attending the GC Samagam 2024, this month, where SLP Law (where I am interning) was a legal partner to the event! Key takeaways: 1. General Counsels need to constantly update themselves about the latest amendments to compliance requirements of their company and/or its specific products. 2. Cross-Border Mergers and Acquisitions have shown an overall profitability potential, but key needs of the hour, is to ensure compliance with differing requirements of various jurisdictions involved. 3. Firms investing in good ESG policies (especially projects aimed at sustainable development) show better stock market performance, and it attracts investors and the general public towards their products, owing to their overall brand image. 4. Sustainability Goals can only be achieved by individual responsibility taking by the firm to commit to such goals. Although, the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (SEBI BRSR guidelines) is a good reporting mechanism rolled out by the SEBI, it is ultimately the firm's internal value-systems which will ensure that they don't resort to green-washing tactics in their disclosures to the Board. It is ultimately on the firm to think humanly and ensure that sustainability remains a key component of their products and corporate governance strategies. #GCSamagam24 #ASSOCHAM
