The investments, hand in hand with our own in electrified equipment and renewable energy will: 💚 Reduce our own scope 3 emissions 🎯 Offer our customers a better product 🚢 Have direct influence on shipping line’s emissions ‘It is obvious that reaching Net Zero is not something we can do on our own as a terminal operator. All stakeholders in and around the ports have to contribute in the different steps of the energy supply chain,” says Peter Corfitsen, CEO, Rijeka Gateway, Croatia. “Therefore, support for the upgrade of the port in Rijeka is a big step ahead to deliver a lower emissions product for our customers, provide better air quality in and around the port and serve as a competitive port for Croatia,” he explains. The FTA Ireland 'Decarbonising the Road Freight Sector Ireland' report was launched by Minister of State Department of Transport James Lawless on the 9th of July 2024. The report can be downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/gQhaC5Dq Specifically relating to commercial fleet operations, when we think of transport decarbonisation most of us initially think of complexity of change, the cost of change, infrastructure to support fleet operations transition to alternative fuels, as well as many other obstacles that potentially impact transition decisions. One of the objectives of this report is to highlight the unique circumstances for the freight distribution sector, differentiate it from general transport and highlight solutions available to help operators decarbonise. The report demonstrates that we are willing to change (indeed FTA Ireland members are leading the way in this regard operating CNG/BioMethane, Hydrogen and electric commercial vehicles as well as utilizing the decarbonising benefits of HVO). The ambition to change is there and must be matched by Government supports. Our partners in the project Gas Networks Ireland SSE Renewables Air Products & Inver Energy Ireland representing different alternative fuels options demonstrate that a coordinated and collaborative approach to change works and it is in everyone's interest to be informed and educated on the alternative fuels available and how they can suit their business. There is more than one solution to fleet decarbonisation. This report is a start, and we hope that it generates debate, a more thorough understanding of the challenges for the road freight distribution sector. We hope that the report will encourage more direct engagement with experts from industry across all government departments willing to develop viable solutions for our industry. Only together we can seize the opportunities offered by the energy transition! With this mutual understanding the first #ClimateTalkSpain was held last week in Bilbao where we talked about the trilateral cooperation between the ports of BilbaoPort, Port of Amsterdam and duisport - Duisburger Hafen AG in order to create a maritime hydrogen corridor. Together with our Ambassador Maria Margarete Gosse, we were honored to count with Arantxa Tapia, Councilor for Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment of the Basque Country, Roel Nieuwenkamp, Ambassador of the Netherlands in Spain and Corinna Enders Chairperson of the Management Board of German Energy Agency (dena). A maritime hydrogen corridor between the ports of Bilbao, Amsterdam and Duisport will allow abundance of green hydrogen and its derivatives produced in the Basque Country to reach industry demand in the Rhine-Ruhr region. The Rhine-Ruhr region is an important location for Europe's chemical and steel industry and Duisport the world's largest inland port. Hamburg becomes first port in Europe to offer box ships shore power THE Port of Hamburg has extended shore-side power to containerships having made it available to cruise ships for several years, reports Rotterdam's Offshore Energy. The 18,000-TEU CMA CGM Vasco de Gama became the first containership to be regularly supplied with shore power at Container Terminal Hamburg (CTH). In the future, containerships will also be able to draw electricity from renewable sources on land while at berth, instead of running the ship＊s engines. ※From 2025, all large cruise and container terminals in the Port of Hamburg will have shore power connections. This is unique in Europe and an important step towards reducing CO2 and pollutant emissions in the Port of Hamburg,§ said Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher.

The Rijeka Gateway 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 in 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐚, a collaborative project between A.P. Moller - Maersk’𝐬 APM Terminals 𝐚𝐧𝐝 ENNA GROUPE, is poised for a sustainable future as it secures renewable energy sources to power its operations. This initiative, deemed the 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 in 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐚, is expected to significantly reduce carbon dioxide and other harmful emissions. With most terminal equipment now electrically powered and remotely operated, Rijeka Gateway aims to become the 𝐀𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧's most advanced terminal. APM Terminals has committed to using renewable electricity throughout construction and operational phases, with ENNA Next providing green certificates to ensure the energy is sourced exclusively from solar and wind power. Furthermore, the terminal will implement an enhanced water management system to prevent 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, minimize light pollution with automated lighting, and reduce noise through shore electricity supplies and advanced crane technology. 🚢🇫🇷 Exciting News from BrestPort! Europe wants to install more than 150 GW of offshore wind by 2030 – from the 30 GW we have today – but this won’t be possible without upscaling ports. In France, Région Bretagne gave the green light for a groundbreaking 40-year concession agreement with SPBB Brest Port Authority. This is an ambitious investment plan of €900m, with an initial injection of €500m over 10 years. Brest Port is set to become an entrepreneurial hub, diversifying into offshore renewable energies and fostering public-private partnerships.
