Instructions for Use (IFUs) guide healthcare workers on how to properly clean, high-level disinfect, and sterilize reusable medical devices, such as surgical instruments and endoscopes. IFUs are often vague, confusing, or unnecessarily complicated.
It is encouraging to see the Infection Control world calling for manufacturers to standardize and simplify IFUs, to improve cleaning and disinfection compliance and efficiency. This is important work for patient safety.
I interpret IFUs often in my role, and would be happy to see a change!
