Good luck Laura Miles presenting at International Congress for Breath Research Conference (IABR Breath summit) Indiana, US next week. The use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in exhaled breath as biomarkers for human health and disease offers a promising, non-invasive diagnostic tool that has the potential to transform clinical practice. Laura will be discussing how thermal desorption can be used to: - extend the dynamic range for breath analysis - generate pooled biological quality control samples that can be used for proficiency testing and longitudinal studies - easily address the high sample volumes generated from large scale breath analysis studies #BreathResearch, #Breathomics, #ThermalDesorptionWithoutCompromise
😮💨 Re-collection of breath samples for extended analyses is a hot topic in breath research – and at this year’s International Congress for Breath Research (IABR) Conference, our Senior Application Specialist Laura Miles will be giving a talk on the subject, explaining how the technique extends the dynamic range of breath analysis. Laura will also discuss how re-collection can generate pooled biological quality control samples that can be used for proficiency testing and longitudinal studies. Our Vice President, Americas, Jeff Tompkins, will also be attending the Summit, sharing his knowledge of the analytical instruments that are behind the advances in this rapidly progressing research area. 🌍✨Today, May 20th, we celebrate International Clinical Trials Day, marking the anniversary of the first clinical trial by Scottish physician James Lind aboard the HMS Salisbury in 1747. Lind's pioneering work laid the foundation for modern clinical research.✨🌍 🍋 In the 18th century, scurvy was a deadly threat to sailors, caused by a lack of vitamin C. It devastated entire fleets and claimed more lives at sea than all other diseases, shipwrecks, or battles combined. ⚓ James Lind, a surgeon on the HMS Salisbury, was determined to find a cure. He selected 12 sailors with scurvy, divided them into pairs, and tested six treatments, including citrus fruits. The men who received citrus showed significant improvement within a week. 💡 Lind’s work illustrates the importance of experimentation in medical science, paving the way for today's controlled clinical trials. 🎆 💊 As we celebrate International Clinical Trials Day, we honor James Lind and all researchers dedicated to advancing medical science. Their work saves lives and improves the quality of life worldwide. 👨🏽⚕️ 👩🏽⚕️ At DocNexus we are proud to play a small role in helping connect scientists to usher in the next-generation of life-saving medicines and clinical research! #InternationalClinicalTrialsDay #HealthcareHeroes #MedicalInnovation #JamesLind #FightAgainstScurvy
