We tend to believe that life is full of surprises, but I’ve come to realize that surprises mostly come to the unprepared. Life you see, is like a story. As such, it has an author. An author who seeing the end from the beginning plots and twists the story to their desired end. An author who fishes characters to match, pruning and cutting to make sure those who stay will carry the depth of the story to life! For this author, nothing comes by surprise! And so I wonder …. What if you became this author? What if you became the author of your life? What if you took back the power to determine the course of your life? What if you woke up to the realization that you decide exactly how things turn out for you? How then would you write your story? What then would your life be? Let’s start with baby steps; What’s your week going to be like? What are you going to achieve? What wins are you going to celebrate? As you start this week, take a moment to determine what you would like to see, and continually walk in the energy of celebrating it! And while you're at it, take a minute to smile! Have you had the time to do some self-reflection on your goals since the year started? Do you know why it's important to have some reflections on your goals? Now here's why: 🔺There are some lessons to pick up from reflecting on your goals. You may need to drop some old strategies that are not working and pick up some new ones. 🔺You'll receive new wisdom from reflection, which will help you  run even faster. 🔺It guarantees speed and gives you more insight on what to focus more on. And this is something you can do quarterly and half of the year, but never leave it until the end of the year. And of course, always going back to your goals helps you keep your goals in front of you. And there won't be any surprises at the end of the year when you stand to count your blessings. PS: I was off for a while on LinkedIn, and while I was out, I took some time to reflect on my goals, and it was eye-opening. I encourage you to find time and do the same with your goals. It's so beautiful to be back Happy New Week!

For several reasons I have not posted much recently. I was going to get back into it next week but as with most things something happens that annoys you and you have to say something. And what is that Derek, I hear you ask? Well, it is the number of people telling everybody else to 'think outside the box'. What is wrong with that, it is a good idea isn't it? Mmmmmmm. Is my initial answer. First of all the phrase has become a buzzword/phrase just like low hanging fruit, being ahead of the curve etc so its meaning is either zero or diluted. Secondly, have you ever been told to not think of a blue elephant? You will be thinking about that animal for the rest of the day. Similarly, telling someone about a box puts that box right there. They start to draw the boundaries rather than erase them. So what do we do then? If you are telling people about thinking in new ways then talk about alternative thinking, exploring boundaries or anything else that means 'going beyond'. If you happen to be facilitating a session with others then simply do it and let people go wow at the end. Have great weekend. See you next week.

Why do you like smiling? I get to answer this question every time. Well, the answer is because it brightens my day. Starting your day with a smile, is just everything. Dear LinkedIn Family, Nothing should take your smile away from you. Challenges are bound to come, but the Bible says, "God will not bring a challenge that is greater than you, and even in that challenge, He promises to make a way of escape for you" (1 Corinthians 10 verse 13). So be strong; challenges are part of the journey. This is a new week, a week to move with the power of resilience. Let's embrace each obstacle as an opportunity for growth and learning. No challenge is worth taking away your smile. As long as there is life, there is hope. Be strong and conquer those challenges with a smile on your face.
