The head of Industrial Parks NOVO Development represented the Bureau of Investment Programs at a working meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development in Rivne👏 ☝️ The Bureau of Investment Programs is the managing company of NOVO industrial parks in Volodymyr and Novovolynsk. 📢 Representatives of the authorities, including local ones, managers of already operating industrial parks, and representatives of energy companies, were invited as speakers. During the meeting, the following essential topics for industrial park development were discussed: ✔️ legislative support for industrial parks; ✔️ bylaws on registration and operation of industrial parks; ✔️ industrial parks as a vital tool for the development of territories and communities; ✔️ successful experience in developing and investing in industrial parks, in particular in the Rivne region; ✔️ designing and connecting industrial parks to electricity, sewage, water, and gas supply.

Member in the Spotlight ~ Carlie Smith! CEBC is very honoured to feature Carlie this month. Her current project working to layer pollinator plantings and farming on solar sites sounds fantastic. Q: Where are you from? CS: I grew up in Calgary, Alberta, moved west to attend Simon Fraser University, and currently live and work in North Vancouver. Q: Where do you work, what's your job title and how long have you held that position? CS: I am a Team Leader, Environment and Community Relations at Boralex. I have been in this role for over three years and manage three Managers in Environment and Community Relations. Our Environment and Community Relations team is responsible for the environmental assessments for Boralex’s development projects and we work collaboratively with the Public Affairs and Communications team on community outreach. Environmental assessments look at all aspects of a project, so we get to be involved in a little bit of everything, from reading wildlife assessments and proposing mitigations, to reviewing engineering drawings, to strategizing with team members on overall project schedules. Q: Throughout your career, what has been the best thing to happen in the clean energy industry? CS: By far the best thing that has happened has been clean energy becoming mainstream. Countries, states, and provinces around the world have recognized that transitioning our economies to clean energy is doable and achievable, and the resulting climate targets have helped to implement this transition. Q: What do you find personally most challenging/rewarding in your career?  CS: I’m an environmental advocate and planner at heart, so my most rewarding moments are when we find innovative solutions that provide an environmental and social benefit. As an example, we’re currently working to layer pollinator plantings and farming on some of our solar sites, which will allow one piece of land to contribute to our ecosystem, economy, and community in multiple ways. Q: What advice would you give a young female high school student wanting to pursue a higher education with the eventual goal of working in the clean energy industry?  CS: Do it! There are a lot of opportunities in the clean energy industry for motivated, educated people. I’ve found people in this industry to be generous with their time and open and willing to support younger people on their career path, so take any opportunity to ask someone about their career path and roles and responsibilities, or volunteer at conferences and talk to people working in different parts of the industry. Most of us feel strongly about clean energy and want everyone to succeed.

This should become the most common landscape in the farming world.
