For those who are responsible for planning the operations and strategic direction of their nonprofit’s board, I offer a few suggestions based on one of the boards that I serve on, Landscape Architecture Foundation. ☑️ Make at least 1 seat available to emerging leaders. Their perspective is invaluable. ☑️ Meetings in-person should be designed around spending time for breaking bread together and building relationships during which all other work is set aside for maximum and genuine attention towards each other as humans and the greater big picture mission of the organization. ☑️ Hosting online committee meetings has proven effective, because relationships are also built from f2f video interactions, as groups commit time to do actual work together with the best brains. ☑️ Spend less time on fancy presentations and presenting to each other, and more time providing valuable industry updates through conversational report outs and with data! ☑️ Focus on information mobility! Communication is a board’s key responsibility. Figure out how to mobilize the information that shows you’re paying attention to your audience’s needs and pain points. If you serve on a board or in an organization that has a board, feel free to offer additional tips from your experience 👇 More to come on this topic! #nonprofitleadership #associationmanagement #leadership #service #volunteering #makingadifference

Master of Science in Hospitality & Tourism Management 2023-present, Florida; Master of Education in Leadership 2018, New Zealand.
I was waiting for this session for about two weeks but unfortunately, I missed it. The topic was interesting to me because it would have allowed me to hear some other opinions from a different audience/ experts. In 2018 I conducted a research paper about (Postgraduate learners’ perceptions of factors that support their autonomous motivation to learn in online contexts), when I did my 1st master's degree in New Zealand. I used the self-determination theory as the analytical framework to explore the factors perceived by online learners as supportive of their autonomous motivation to learn in online environments at a postgraduate level. The semi-structured interview findings that emerged from the inductive thematic analysis indicated that factors perceived as supportive of learners’ psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness, are more likely to enhance online learners’ autonomous motivation and promote the process of internalization allowing more self-determined types of extrinsic motivation to exist. Anyway, if anyone is interested, there is a copy of my research in my profile here on Linkedin if you want to check it out. Thanks, Dr. Miranda for keeping doing these kinds of interesting workshops and sessions.
Big thank you to Britanny N. Balthaser, BA, Lloydine O'Sullivan and Nelson Olivia for making this a fantastic session! 💙💛🐾

Wise words as always from my good friend and President at 72andSunny in Sydney, Ross Berthinussen, about the merits of having super experienced strategic and creative folk in your agency. Something we also see a lot of value in at the Orange Panther Collective. Some tangible examples of this: * Smaller teams are more closely involved in the development of the work. This makes communication, collaboration and focus within the team, and client partners, far easier to foster. * The flatter agency structure in many ways ‘runs itself’, as experienced staff are capable of directing their own output and managing their own time – quality control is baked into the model. * A leaner and flatter agency structure fosters a more democratic agency. Everyone is sufficiently experienced and respected to have a voice in the agency’s work, and its future. This encourages bravery and innovation. * It makes projects easier to manage: fewer stakeholders and process stage gates ensure that work can be swiftly ideated and produced. * It removes ‘fat’ from timelines and budgets, ensuring that projects are run more efficiently for clients. * Having senior brains on the business with a broader understanding of business and marketing (and a more finely tuned ‘gut feel’) also leads to faster, more effective work. This by no means says we don’t enjoy working with and helping shape young teams too, there is a time and place for everyone. As I said, wise words Rossi 🙌 #strategy #creative #leadership #advertising #marketing
