Our Whale Heritage Areas programme has been featured as a case study in a new report by the Nature Positive Tourism Partnership! 🎉🐳 As the tourism industry grows, awareness of its impact on the planet is also increasing. Nature Positive Tourism proposes an approach for the tourism sector that not only minimises harm to the environment, but actively invests in nature restoration. This new report provides practical guidance for businesses and government agencies on how to protect biodiversity by putting Nature Positive Tourism principles into action. A new report from the Nature Positive Tourism Partnership (UN Tourism, World Travel and Tourism Council and Sustainable Hospitality Alliance) developed in collaboration with Animondial has been published this week. The ‘Nature Positive Travel & Tourism in Action’ report follows the WTTC 2022 publication ‘Nature Positive Travel & Tourism’ to provide practical guidance for businesses and government agencies on how to turn the Nature Positive Tourism principles into action. The report features a range of case studies, including #WhaleHeritageAreas as an example of collaboration between various stakeholders to protect nature. The much-awaited Tourism 2050: A Blueprint for Impact is now out. Released after wide industry consultation during the winter, this strategy is a broad plan for tourism over the next three decades with the goal to enrich Aotearoa New Zealand through a flourishing tourism ecosystem. The Strategic Response to enable attainment of this Vision is: 1. Reset System Design and Management. Actions about the design of the tourism system, how tourism is funded, the insights needed for decision making and embracing Te Whakarae Māori. 2. Action on Carbon Emissions and Biodiversity. Actions about addressing carbon, lifting tourism contributions to predator free and biodiversity restoration, and how tourism works with our conservation lands and waters. 3. Equip Tourism Businesses. Actions about increasing the capability of tourism businesses to be prosperous and operate sustainably, growing a sustainable tourism workforce and embedding Tiaki throughout the tourism industry.
