Anyone in the mood to celebrate? 🍾 Today I received my ✅ACCEPTANCE✅ to the Orthopedic Reconstruction || Trauma and Spine program at Medical Sales College ! I had been yearning for a career I was passionate about, and it is NEVER too late to start over! I like to keep life spicy anyway! 🌶️ Here’s what I’ll be up to the next 12 weeks 👇🏻 📝 Obtaining professional representative certifications for the industry to have the credentials required to enter any operating room. ⏰440 hours of training in anatomy, pathology, surgical procedures, biomechanics, and OR protocol for implants and biologics. 🦴Intensive 12 week course includes 60 hours of role-plays, sawbone labs, and VR simulations of musculoskeletal surgical procedures. 🩻Medical device sales training, based on consultive techniques for value-based selling geared towards surgeons and hospitals, pitching, and clinical validation presentation. I’m excited to learn new things, challenge myself and brush up on my marketing skills that coincide with medical sales to excel in this new venture — these include but are not limited to: -Business Relationship Management -Presentation Skills -Public Speaking -Time Management -Organization Skills -Relationship Building -Sales -Research & hey, you can’t sell anything if you can’t sell yourself! Seven months ago, I started a job I knew virtually nothing about. Here's how it's going today: My PhD is in Developmental Psychology - I studied babies for over a decade. Today, I am a human factors engineer at a medical device company, building technology to assist orthopedic surgeons. It was an enormous career pivot. Now, it's performance review season at Arthrex, where we write a self-assessment before getting feedback from our manager. Since this is my first FTE position, this is also my first performance review (ever). Writing my assessment, I felt the imposter syndrome... I had started my role with essentially no prior experience in medical devices, human factors engineering, or orthopedic surgery. I felt so behind. I still have so much to learn. Fortunately, I had kept a list of all the work I did over the past 7 months, and how it aligned with our corporate goals and our team's key result areas. I was surprised at the length of my list: • I had created technical file reports for regulatory submissions, usability plans, device use specifications, research protocols and reports, and risk management documents for over 10 different product lines. • I created a flowchart and guide for completing our technical file reports and complaint analyses, leading to 50% decrease in time required to create these reports (80-120 hours per file from 160-240 hours). This is the power of a having a PhD. You're an expert learner. You can get thrown into the deep end and figure it out, fast. You're stubborn and resourceful and don't give up when things feel hard - even if you're starting from square one. If this doesn't make you chringe, it might make you think twice. I don't know like busses my posts, wait months for one and two come along at once. Where to start this one... Well after 4 years of Covid-19, my business model was destroyed. Twenty years going from contracting to full time self-employed at my own unit with my own CMM doing really well. Training was our mainstay of the business and that disappeared over night with Covid-19, so back to the start I went contracting. Three contracting roles later a total of two years I've just received a two weeks notice to finish me at #Radiusaerospace Brahama Sheffield via #RocSearch agent. So Thursday morning whilst at work I got a call from a Medical Surgery unit they had a cancellation for me, having been waiting sometime in discomfort I decided to take this offer. I didn't expect what happened next. Within an hour of informing David White of #Radiusareospace it was unlikely I could work onsite for fortnight but was willing to work offline at my unit. A Charles Peacock of #RocSearch was giving me my notice of two weeks. All perfectly legal and with in the terms of the contract. So I can't work my notice and not able to fill in my time at such notice. As a quick poll (lot of them about these days) who would. 1, side with myself, being out of pocket 2, #Radiusaerospace being financially frugal. 3, #Roc-Search good small print, plus you as a contractor can not not give notice. And why would you work for these Organisations having witnessed a Dennis Roye (contractor) given a six months extension and then his notice two weeks later. W@F is going on here. !!!

Spending the week in the OR in Croatia, I realize how important these trips are to *identify our customers individual needs to being able to best perform for the best patient outcome. *experience the challenges of individual patient anatomy and to learn from our customer surgeons but also theatre staff what we can do to support them. *see how we can and have to permanently improve our systems, even if the new medical device regulation (MDR) in Europe is not helpful in this. *learn about different market needs and challenges within the healthcare sector. *meet with my sales colleagues and distributors to find out how I can help them creating the best business for and with my company. *soak in the fantastic feeling after a successful case and to being close to the patient that feels much better afterwards, because that’s what we all work for. *enjoy the great team spirit all over the world, because taking over my family business is very often very tough and exhausting and I couldn’t do it with the loyalty, positivity and friendship of so many of my colleagues and customers. #teamworkmakesthespinework #familybusiness #nextgeneration #spinesurgery #spinalimplants #signusfamily
