The recent US veto in the UN Security Council is an excellent example that the UN is a non-democratic institution. Many nations are often considered second-class nations within it. Abandoning the veto power, dismantling the rigid Security Council mechanism, and implementing restructuring and reform are necessary.

The SSR conference "The AU SSR Policy Framework - A Decade of Implementation: Successes, Challenges, and Perspectives for the Future" was followed by the fifth meeting of the AU Steering Committee on SSR. The members, AU entities and RECs/RMs, together with observers such as UNOAU, jointly identify priorities, align approaches, and provide guidance to member states on ways and means to enhance and streamline security sector governance in all aspects of conflict prevention and resolution. This steering committee also reflected on the outcomes and recommendations of the SSR conference, and agreed to submit the recommendations to the AU PSC for strategic guidance on the way forward. @UNOAU #SSR #AU_PAPS https://lnkd.in/e4Yq5H53
