It's Fieldays week! If you can squeeze in the time, then I encourage you all to visit. I have a deep connection (past Board member, Innovations judge - and more...). But regardless of the past, I get such a kick out visiting each year. First, seeing this years' innovations - the gift that keeps growing (puns always intended). Clever people and technology adding value to NZInc. As a patent attorney it is particularly gratifying to see the commercial version of what you first came across as a raw concept, and as an IP strategist, it is such a pleasure to see how inventors and companies position themselves. Next, I am reminded how we are all interconnected in the Agritech space and how it underpins NZ's economic fabric. We all depend upon and support each other. Last - mussel fritters! True Story: I was introduced to Troy Bonde back in the early Fall of 2022 as he was finishing up at USC Marshall School of Business. And according to his accounting professor, he "was an ok student and he occasionally showed up for class", but had an idea to market a pasta sauce and asked if I would meet with him as a favor. #pastasauce! Never one to turn down Harris, I thought this was an opportunity to save another aspiring food entrepreneur from plummeting to the depths of despair in what is a brutally competitive category dominated by deep promotion spending on largely mediocre brands. But then I met Troy and Winston. And I saw the Sauz packaging. And I tasted the product. And I listened to their strategy. And I loved the positioning. And I knew this was different. They know how to do this. This brand has #ethos. Their key innovation is #emotion. Post Ne-Yo Concert Reflections 🎶🌟 As the vibrancy returns to downtown Winnipeg, my recent dining experience got me pondering the age-old marketing question: Customer Acquisition vs. Customer Retention. After a phenomenal night at the concert (kudos to Ne-Yo and the incredible turnout!), my friends and I decided to cap off the evening with a visit to one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Winnipeg. Despite our attempts to secure a reservation beforehand, we were assured that, as regular clients, walk-ins would suffice. The bustling post-concert chaos had us on a 2.5-hour wait time. This encounter made me contemplate the upcoming surge in foot traffic downtown, especially with spring and summer events on the horizon. It got me thinking: where should businesses focus their marketing budgets this summer?
