The future of deep-sea transportation is here! We are very proud to finally be able to say: Meet the first of our 12 Aurora Class vessels, the Höegh Aurora. The world’s largest and most environmentally friendly car carrier ever built. A groundbreaking and an industry transformational vessel. Today, she was delivered and named at a naming ceremony at China Merchants Heavy Industry’s yard in Jiangsu, China. On Thursday, she will commence commercial operations and begin her maiden voyage to Japan. Cutting carbon emissions per car transported by up to 58 percent from current industry average, equipped with DNV’s “ammonia ready” and “methanol ready” notations, and being the first in the PCTC-segment to be able to operate on carbon-neutral ammonia, the Höegh Aurora is setting new standards for sustainable deep-sea shipping. She represents a monumental leap towards our ambitious 2040 goal of net-zero emissions operations. Our CEO, Andreas Enger, says: "With Höegh Aurora and the Aurora Class, we are pioneering efforts to combat pollution in a hard-to-abate segment. The Aurora Class embodies the change our industry needs." Höegh Aurora has a capacity of up to 9,100 cars. With her strengthened decks and enhanced internal ramp systems she can carry electric vehicles on all 14 decks. Her 1500 square meters of solar panels on the top deck reduce electricity production from the generators by up to 30-35 percent. Also, she primed to embrace electric shore power for emissions-free port operations. The Höegh Aurora is designed for future cargo. She is the future of our industry. Many people would have found it hard to restrain from a very blunt no. Luckily, our CEO is not one of them. And Höegh Autoliners is a company where we are not afraid of taking risks. Always risks that are rooted in knowledge, research, and analysis, of course. We never do anything half-heartedly. But taking risk is synonymous to being a frontrunner. And industry-leader. A bit less than four years ago, I launched the idea of our Aurora Class to Andreas Enger. The market was different. It was the time of Corona. Very few invested in the future at that time. Not least in a greener future. But Andreas did not turn down the idea. We went to work. And in 11 days, the first Aurora Class vessel will be delivered, named, and put into commercial operations. The largest and most environmentally friendly PCTC vessel ever built. I love working at Höegh Autoliners. We live our company values of bold, agile and professional every day. We almost can’t wait any longer. Luckily, the big day is just 11 days away. On August 6, the very first Aurora Class vessel will be delivered. It’s an industry milestone. She will be the largest and most environmentally friendly PCTC vessel ever built. Her commencing commercial operations is the beginning of the future. One that would have never been realized had it not been for an organization and our group of employees being both bold, agile and incredibly professional. Our corporate values are not just letters on a paper. We live by them every day. And they have been imperative in fulfilling our dream of a whole new class of PCTC vessels. We are happy to share the news that we have reached an agreement for the sale of Höegh Kobe. ⚓ Höegh Kobe (6,000 CEU) was built at DSME shipyard in 2006 and is sailing under the Singapore flag. 🤝The vessel will be delivered to the new owner by July 2024. 💲 Höegh Kobe was sold for USD 59 million and is debt-free. "As the delivery date of the first newbuilding approaches, the sale of Höegh Kobe presents another good opportunity to optimize our fleet", says CEO of Höegh Autoliners, Andreas Enger.
