2 years ago, this day, we shipped an integrated business planning program to production at a UK based FMCG giant client and I remember the complexity during processing those plans: - They juggled 380 SKUs across 4 regions with a salesforce of 18,000 people. It was a chaos to finish one plan cycle (which, on a good month took 5 working days)! Now, imagine doing it every month; 12 times a year!! To worsen matters, they introduced a bottom-up revision mechanism too which allowed the feet-on-street to revise their plan and submit for approval. The right combination of team Polestar Solutions & Services, leaders, and tools (in this case, they used an Agile planning platform called Anaplan To my fellow planning professionals, I want to share my 4 step rule that I follow always during any cycle - 1. Plan results close to the end of the month 2. Budget for variance and recalibrate 3. RCA on why the variance occurred 4.
