Do internships matter? Yes, they do. Simply put, internships are the way companies largely find a good portion of their younger workforce. At Goldman Sachs, 80% of the incoming analyst class are former interns. At GS, they call the internship the 10-week interview. 🌟 Practical Experience: Internships provide hands-on experience in your field of interest, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. This experience is invaluable and can significantly enhance your resume, making you a more competitive candidate for future job opportunities. 🌟 Networking Opportunities: During an internship, you'll meet professionals within your industry, which can lead to mentorship opportunities and connections that might be crucial for your career development and future job prospects. And, you might even join a baking competition or to over the summer ;) 🌟 Skill Development: Internships allow you to develop specific skills that are essential in your field but are often not fully covered in academic settings. This includes both technical skills and soft skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. 🌟 Company Culture Fit: They give you a firsthand look at a company's environment and culture, helping you decide if it's a good long-term fit for you. Understanding the dynamics of a workplace can be as crucial as the job itself. It's a two-way street - you get to choose the company you work at too. 🌟 Transition to Full-Time Position: As evidenced at companies like Goldman Sachs, internships can directly lead to full-time job offers. Performing well during an internship can often result in a job offer upon completion, which is a significant step in your career. This allows you to take a bit of a chill pill your senior year! I really enjoyed my internships, and also made some good friends along the way! Hi Cheryl and Raheem (this internship was 11 years ago)! Work hard to get good internships! Hope these tips help with the graduating class this year, and for any university students who think they should waste their summers away. #internship #summers #graduation #university #job #skills

Employer Relations Leader | Connecting Employers to World Class CMU Students & Grads | Part 107 Certified Drone Pilot | Co-Founder
💭 As it relates to the conversation regarding a downshift in the volume of internships per position declining, a rise in applications, AI, smaller recruiting teams, and budget cuts; I had an employer tell me recently, "If your students are critical thinkers and problem solvers, like they mention in their resumes, they need to apply that to their networking skills". There needs to be a shift of effort from "Spray and Pray Resumes" to Strategizing and Executing when it comes to research and networking. If you are wondering, "how can I help? What can I do?" Introduce someone in your network to another person in your network. When someone tells you their search is hopeless, challenge them set goals to attend meetups, local gatherings, or chat with a coach. We still live in a world where, "It's all about who you know", So help these folks identify those in their connected network to increase, "Who they know". There is so much more to say on this topic, but the main point is that standing out takes effort, but finding a job or internship is not impossible. #Internships #Standout #JobSearch #Hiring #Talent #Jobs
Internships -- the first tentative step in most careers -- are drying up, Jo Constantz reports for Work Shift. Internships listed on Handshake fell more than 7% from last June through May compared with the same period a year earlier. And each available internship received nearly double the applicants. "Honestly, I don’t remember a time when getting an internship has been this challenging," said longtime career coach Lesley Mitler. The current "era of efficiency" has put internships on the chopping block at some employers. “Internship programs are expensive: You have to use part of your HR team to oversee these interns and make their lives great,” said Julia Pollak, chief economist at ZipRecruiter, which registered a14% drop in internship listings.“You have to pay them and not necessarily get great quality work out of them.” Some companies that have pared back internship programs are offering workshops that cost less and come with a lower time commitment, said Sean McGowan, director of employer relations at Carnegie Mellon University. “None of these companies can afford to take their brand fully out of a campus — you’ll lose your talent to your competitor,” he said. Is it wise for companies to dial back or eliminate internships? What is your organization doing this summer? Debunking the Myth: M&E Internships Are Not a Scam for Career Growth. It's no secret that the word "internship" often raises eyebrows, conjuring images of coffee runs, menial tasks, and little room for real career progression. In many industries, internships have earned a reputation for being mere placeholders, recycling individuals through low-level roles with little promise of advancement. However, when it comes to Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) internships, I'm here to dispel that notion entirely. In fact, M&E internships offer a unique opportunity for career growth and professional development unlike any other. What sets M&E internships apart is the interdisciplinary nature of the work. Unlike traditional internships that may pigeonhole individuals into specific roles, M&E work allows you to tap into various dynamics within the realm of data collection, analysis, and evaluation. From public health initiatives to development projects, the opportunities to niche down and specialize are endless. Consider the possibilities: You could focus on designing and implementing robust data collection methodologies, dive deep into statistical analysis to uncover meaningful insights, or specialize in evaluating program impact and effectiveness. The breadth and depth of M&E work provide a rich and dynamic landscape for professional growth. For graduates and those starting out their careers in M&E, I urge you to consider the value of internships beyond the various certification programs available. Internships offer hands-on experience, exposure to real-world challenges, and the chance to network with seasoned professionals in the field. Speaking from personal experience, I've had the privilege of training strategic information officers on the usage of M&E tools to strengthen data quality and integrity. This firsthand experience has reinforced my belief in the transformative power of M&E internships as a catalyst for career growth and impact. So, to all aspiring M&E professionals out there, don't underestimate the value of internships on your journey. Embrace the opportunity to immerse yourself in the diverse and dynamic world of M&E, and watch your career soar to new heights. Together, let's redefine what it means to intern in the realm of Monitoring and Evaluation. #MonitoringAndEvaluation #Internships #CareerGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment

Dragin.io CEO | Career Coach for Finance @ MarkRoss.com | Former Morgan Stanley VP | TikTok: @markrosscoaching | YouTube.com/MarkRoss | I help you land epic jobs in finance!!
Don't accept an internship after you have full-time work experience!! I get it. You've been out of a work for a few months and this is a way "back in". DON'T DO IT. What you will be doing is "resetting" your experience level, and demonstrating that you do not have a stable career path. There are a few cases where this might make sense: 1. If you are trying to redefine yourself. You have three years experience in marketing and you are looking to move into banking. Ok, makes sense! 2. If you are in a master's program and are looking for associate level roles. An associate internship might be just the thing! But please do not take one because you need a job. I just got off the phone with a client who has an internship opportunity. I told him to respond as follows: "Thanks for the opportunity, but unfortunately I simply cannot work as an intern anymore. I have a solid bachelor's degree and two years of relevant work experience. Your firm is amazing and I would love to join as an analyst." Think this will blow your chances? Here is the reality: 1. If they turn this down then that means you were never going to get a full time offer after the internship anyhow...they simply don't have the budget for it. 2. They MIGHT be impressed with your confidence and that you know your self worth and make you a full time offer instead. tldr; say NO to internships if you have experience.

BIGGEST MISTAKE when students apply for internships / entry-level jobs? You only list qualifications and skills. Instead of a long list of skills, showcase how you drive results and solve real-world problems. Craft your application to highlight the value you offer and the impact you'd make if the company hires you. That's what captures recruiters' attention and lands you the dream internship or entry-level role 🌟 Ready to stand out? Discover your career on Kabel. B.S.B.A, Management Student Graduating in Spring 2026 | Proactive Learner exploring #Consulting #Investment #Bussiness #First-Gen #NetWorking #CRM #Analyst #RE
I have lived in Salt Lake City since 2010, and my profile bio briefly overviews my educational and professional journey. Reflecting on what I have been through, I did not have courage in some moments, and I let my thoughts take over my actions. Fast forward to Dec 2022, I decided to return to school while working full-time. In February 2024, I began applying for summer analyst internships for 2025 (finance). I was unaware of how competitive the selection process could be, such as networking, school performance, extracurricular activities, and other significant factors in the recruitment process. I encountered challenges and heard many stories from students from different backgrounds and forums. After two and a half months, I learned something through seeking internships: ✅ I received countless advice and insights for career conversations and self-development from professionals, former employees, and advisors working in different industries and companies. ✅ I could manage my time between work and school. ✅ I organized my schedule to attend countless networking events, information sessions, submission/insights programs, advisor, and coaching appointments. ✅ I worked well under pressure because HireVue and online assignments had deadlines, which allowed me to prioritize tasks. ✅ Learning how to communicate through #networking events and asking questions, I stepped out of my comfort zone. ✅ Rejection does not imply inadequacy but relatively high competition. What can I learn from this experience? ✅ I dare to try harder after many cold emails and LinkedIn requests. ✅ Be prepared, be proactive and reach out to #recruiters. ✅ Applying early for all programs, #virtualseries #information sessions and more from companies. ✅ I learned to search for more resources and focus on solutions instead of problems. 🔥 Finally, Thanks to CareerSpring, Access Distributed platforms I found that are great for all diverse, first-generation, and non-target school students with low incomes who need more networking, career advice, and more. As a sophomore, I missed the events and programs of many helpful organizations in my early career. Thanks to the Forté Foundation, Girls Who Invest, for many great resources. For more information, you can check their websites, also check out events and #internship opportunities on Handshake, LinkedIn.
