While it's still early days for me pursuing the Online Master of Science in Computer Science (OMSCS) degree at Georgia Tech, I've been extremely impressed by the program so far! One of its founders - Professor David Joyner - is following his "ikigai-aligned" mission and passion for leveraging new technologies to improve student learning at scale (check his recent blog about spending more than half of his life so far at Georgia Tech - https://lnkd.in/gHhsaAJA - it's so great to meet people who are genuinely happy about what they are doing). David and the team are going above and beyond to make this top-10 countrywide CS program affordable without sacrificing quality. The total cost of OMSCS degree is ~$7K, which is a fraction of what is charged by other comparable schools. 10K alumni and ~10K current students from 50 countries are part of the awesome OMSCS Yellow Jackets community. However, there are still millions of folks (from both developed and developing countries) who could have benefitted from OMSCS education, yet they won't be able to afford paying such a fee. Someone might argue - "There are plenty of free MOOCs!" - but most of them are not providing the level of student support, structure and, more importantly, community of like-minded learners and hustlers like OMSCS program does! If you are looking for some impactful options to donate, please consider participating in the "College of Computing OMSCS Fellowship Fund" by using this link: https://lnkd.in/gH4MQuvj P.S1. For my non-SWE friends - with the new HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) specialization introduced last year, there are plenty of cool courses related to Product Design, Analytics, Marketing and other PM fields that do not require advanced programming skills. I'm still debating between ML and HCI specializations but we'll see where my new education journey takes me in the next few quarters - both options seem cool! :) P.S2. "Is the program still relevant in the age of the GenAI revolution?" I believe the answer is YES. Things like HCI, ML Infrastructure and Cyber Security become even more relevant than they used to be. OMSCS program has great courses covering these topics. #GoYellowJackets! #OMSCS
Executive Director of OMSCS and Online Education & Zvi Galil PEACE Chair at College of Computing at Georgia Tech
One novel thing about OMSCS has always been that we've received gifts and support from lots of people over the years who had no actual affiliation with OMSCS or Georgia Tech whatsoever—but they appreciated what the program is doing to expand access to CS education and to demonstrate how we can drive down the cost of education. So, in addition to sending a message like this to a couple existing lists, I recorded a message for anyone I would describe as a "friend" of the program. And my cat decided to join the message too. The short version is that for Giving Day, we have the chance to raise money to support fellowships for future OMSCS students. To give to the OMSCS Fellowship Fund for Giving Day, visit https://lnkd.in/ekWPYuNT and click "College of Computing Online Master of Science in Computer Science (OMSCS) Fellowship Fund" (or click Give Now, then select College of Computing OMSCS Fellowship Fund).

Greatness starts with a dream...
The DLD Conference was life changing for me in many ways, but more importantly because I got to give a keynote speech about our lofty dreams of helping the forgotten children find their rightful place in the world again. I was a little nervous before going up stage, but God’s promise to us remains true that he hasn’t given us the spirit of fear, but of love, power and of a Soundmind. My speech was captured as a top highlight of the event and deeply resonated with thousands of people in attendance. Every time I get to talk about the work that we do @chessinslums , I’m reminded that I do not speak for myself alone, but on behalf of millions of children across Africa whose hopes and dreams could depend on this. It’s a privilege of a lifetime that I’m able to stand in the gap for them. And someday, when the stars we bring up align, they will get to speak on global stages like this one, and extend the same opportunities to other children like them. Here’s to raising a new generation of thinkers that will challenge the status quo and bring Africa to the prosperity it truly deserves. Here’s to doing great things from a small place❤️
