Amrop at #DES2024 Oscar Garcia-Velasco, the Managing Partner of Amrop España and one of the new members of Amrop's Global Digital Practice, took part in the DES | Digital Enterprise Show in Malaga last week, and spoke to the other participants of the CAIO - Chief AI Officer role, the profile of which he and the Amrop team in Spain have developed. "In March, the White House announced that all federal agencies in the US would have to appoint a Chief AI Officer to strengthen their governance in respect of the technology. The mandate is expected to create about 100 such CAIOs by the end of May," said Garcia-Velasco. "AI is no longer a buzzword - it's a transformative force. It's paramount that its power is harnessed through effective leadership and a skilled team. The role of the AI Director or CAIO - the Chief AI Officer is pivotal and, along with the other profiles of the AI teams that will emerge, it will be them who shape the future of business." He stated the key skills that a successful CAIO should have, which include being a strategist and having a deep business understanding in order to be able to align AI initiatives with organizational objectives and priorities. While he didn't insist that the CAIO should necessarily have a highly technical background, they would need to be technically savvy and have passion for innovation and curiosity to stay abreast of the latest advances and emerging trends in the field of AI. "They would also have to be excellent communicators, since they need to be able to transmit complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and deal with the different departments of the company." emphasized Garcia-Velasco. "And, last but not least, they need to be what I like to call an "ethical superstar" - a great moral authority with high ethical and regulatory considerations related to AI, including privacy, security and compliance requirements, as well as sustainability, diversity and inclusion." The question of leadership in relation to the use of AI will also be the key theme in the latest study launched by Amrop’s Global Digital Practice, where we will look into the new leadership competencies required and ways to develop them in order to maximize the success of introducing the use of AI in these organizations. We have been talking to leaders of midsize companies and venture businesses from larger corporations, who have shared their experience leveraging AI strategies - for their organization and customers, and will be offering our analysis, suggestions and conclusions in the context of Amrop's Digital Competency Model and the Chief AI Officer profile in the coming months. To find out more, reach out to Oscar Garcia-Velasco, Job Voorhoeve, the leader of Amrop's Global Digital Practice or the Digital Practice members in your country!
