Leaf it out! A new way to make paper 📰 Re-using fallen leaves instead of trees🌴 Love seeing businesses find better ways to make the stuff we will always need. It is believed that 11,000 trees are cut down every year to produce paper. Releaf Paper uses fallen leaves, to generate paper, cards, wrapping paper, etc. 1 ton of Releaf Paper:  - Saves 17 trees from being cut down - Recycles 2.5 tons of leaves  - Uses 78% less emissions during production - Uses 15% less water during production The team is on a mission to produce 10 million paper bags each month. Contrary to popular belief, you actually save trees by using MORE paper, not less. That's because the paper industry practices sustainable forestry and plants more trees than it harvests. The Lumber Industry: A driving force of industrial symbiosis In spite of the fact that the forestry lumber sector is often described as being one whose business culture is focussed on costs and dedicated to large volume production, it is evident that companies in the forestry lumber sector interact with other sectors and will do so increasingly in the future. Facilitating innovation in traditional companies should begin by highlight the fact that organisational culture and the non-commitment of senior management to transition are linked to the capacity to innovate and confirm that “innovation in the bioeconomy will occur with or without current forestry sector companies” and that to participate in the bioeconomy is not possible without product, process and business model innovation. The creation of innovation requires experience in diverse areas, collaborations or intersectoral networks and the setting up of new types of consortiums which facilitate a more efficient use of lumber resources, including using the cascade principles of lumber waste and the recovery of biological based sub products to promote a more intensive and diverse use of lumber resources for high aggregate value applications. Virtual Prototyping Solutions For The Heavy Machinery Industry

Sonoco, the leading producer of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) in North America, has declared a price hike of $70 per ton for all URB grades in the US and Canada. Greif, the second-largest producer, announced a similar increase ranging from $50 to $70 per ton for all URB grades just a few days earlier. Together, these two companies account for 45% of the region’s URB production. The recent rise in the price of old corrugated containers (OCC) has been putting pressure on costs. The objective is clear: to design, construct, and test branch pruning equipment capable of autonomous decision-making in field conditions. This equipment will harness hardware and software solutions, including computer vision, to recognize, select, and localize branches amidst various environmental conditions. The development of CV-based software enables autonomous analysis and assessment, adhering to multi-criteria parameters for efficient pruning. A key component of this innovation is the design and construction of a moving platform, integrating a robotized manipulator with the agility to reach targeted branches. Finally, rigorous calibration and testing in real-world scenarios, including sea buckthorn bushes and bush blueberries, will validate the effectiveness of this groundbreaking technology.
