Warmer days bring kitten season, which means faculty member Dr. Karen Vernau and the student volunteers who run the Orphan Kitten Project at UC Davis are currently in high gear. As you’ll see in today’s #MinuteWithMark video, they help kittens go from being homeless to receiving excellent medical care and socialization until they are adopted. Programs like this make a huge difference. Research has shown (https://lnkd.in/gtSU6saJ) that different measures adopted in the U.S. have driven down animal shelter intakes and euthanasia significantly. Grassroots, donor-driven organizations like the Orphan Kitten Project and initiatives like our shelter medicine program (https://lnkd.in/gh68Zza5) help to save individual animals like the ones in the video while improving the overall picture. Collectively, we ARE making an impact. If you want to adopt a kitten or provide other support, please contact the dedicated students at the Orphan Kitten Project (https://lnkd.in/gPeJDM9E).

Director of Bryant Research | Head of Policy at Alternative Proteins Association | Social science for the protein transition
"I know for a fact that many people in the animal movement have taken pay cuts that amount to several times my salary to move from the private sector. This effectively amounts to a five-figure annual donation to the animal cause. In my book, leaving serious money on the table to help those who need it is as sure a sign of good character as one can look for." We are beyond excited to present to you our latest report, which we hope will be of help from many groups and animal advocates: Animal welfare in the United States: Opportunities for impact. From the Summary: "In this report, we give an overview of animal production in the United States. We explore which industries are responsible for the largest amount of animal exploitation in the United States. We touch on all major farmed and wild-caught sectors in the country, before taking a deeper look at egg production and chicken meat production. Looking at how animal production is clustered by state and county, we point out where there are opportunities for animal advocacy organisations to make the biggest impact on the lives of animals. We also provide an overview of the economic forces that determine how animals are farmed and killed, which can help us to understand whether any given campaign will deliver the impact that we intend." ----- We want to help you! Are you an animal advocacy organisation seeking to conduct a high-impact campaign? We would love to work with you—like the insights in this report, we can provide detailed, specific analysis for the campaigns that your organisation is interested in. This is an initial scoping report, and we have only scratched the surface. We can inform the choice of campaign to empower your organisation to do the most good for animals. ----- https://lnkd.in/dguridNe #animalwelfare #animaladvocacy #farmanimals #animalscience #effectivealtruism #farmanimalwelfare #EAGLondon #poultry #eggs
