engineering at its finest before all the equipment to use
Bristol's iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge took over 33 years to build and was completed in December 1864. 👏 In 1829, a competition was launched to help design the bridge, and after years of funding issues, engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel landed his first commission to design the Clifton Suspension Bridge at age 24. Funding issues continued, so progress was slow, and unfortunately, Isambard died before the bridge was completed. But in 1860, as a memorial to Brunel, the Institution of Civil Engineers formed a company to complete the bridge, with Sir John Hawkshaw and William Henry Barlow appointed engineers.
