“The Earth Commission has been critically important to highlight the areas where the health sector needs to step forward, both conducting research, but also thinking about implementation: how to modify our policies and plans, how to strengthen our health systems, to be able to manage the kinds of changes that we know from the Earth Commission are coming.” Professor Kristie Ebi, Earth Commission Ambassador, discusses the incoming impact that climate change will have on our health, and global health systems. Powerful piece out in JAMA, Journal of the American Medical Association today, and an excellent reminder of the dangers of seeing humans as separate from nature, and the value of reconnecting to the value of systems thinking about human health. "As the health world has recognized with the development of the concept of planetary health, the natural world is made up of one overall interdependent system." https://lnkd.in/dgBbhMu7

During this interview Dr. Maayan Yitshak-Sade discusses the cutting-edge intersection of environmental science and health. Learn how novel satellite-based exposure models and big data are used to study the impacts of climate change and air pollution on cardiovascular health. Discover the most vulnerable populations, the potential for environmental mitigation, and practical advice on reducing health risks. This conversation highlights the transformative research at Institute for Climate Change, Environmental Health, and Exposomics at Mount Sinai aimed at improving public health and shaping policy. #AspenIdeasHealth #AspenIdeas #WeFindAWay

Out now: Our Nature Portfolio paper discussing the importance of understanding cellular and molecular mechanisms of damage in climate-related health outcomes to best plan interventions that mitigate harm: https://lnkd.in/dVMCy2tM #tldr: The cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the health impacts of climate change must be better understood in order to plan interventions that mitigate harm.

Today, 200 health journals across the world have simultaneously published an editorial calling for the climate and nature crisis to be recognised as one indivisible global health emergency. What is the issue? • The world is currently treating the climate and nature crises as if they were two separate challenges. This is a dangerous mistake. • The public health impacts of climate change and the loss of biodiversity is quite severe. What is the call for action? • The World Health Organization should declare a global public health emergency! Read the editorial to find out more: https://lnkd.in/eJfmU_6g #ClimateNature4Health

#PlanetaryHealth requires the mobilization of all sciences - not just ecological and social sciences, not only public health and health system sciences, but also the basic sciences of biology and chemistry Our today’s challenges are multi-level, multi-scalar, multi-directional

Over 200 medical journals unite to urge WHO to declare climate change and biodiversity loss a global health emergency. They emphasize the dire consequences of rising temperatures and extreme weather, stressing their interconnectedness. Authors call for a joint declaration, citing it as crucial. This plea aligns with upcoming climate talks at COP and spotlights the urgent need to address these issues. Challenges in classifying them as public health emergencies are acknowledged. Canadian medical groups also advocate for recognition. Key to success is coordinated action and a sense of urgency. 🌍🆘 #ClimateHealthEmergency #BiodiversityCrisis 🩺🌿 https://buff.ly/45MfBYP

🌱 On #WorldEnvironmentDay – we cannot ignore the threat pollution has to the climate and our health 🔊 But not enough is being done about #NoisePollution. Noise is one of the biggest environmental threats to health in Europe, after #AirPollution. Caused by sources including traffic, industry and construction – noise pollution impacts our #MentalHealth and long term exposure increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cognitive impairment. #BestCostEU sets out to improve methodologies to build scientific evidence on the socioeconomic cost of noise and air pollution. This evidence will support improved policies to reduce the health and environmental threats we face. Find out more https://best-cost.eu/ #HorizonEurope
