What is happening in Slovakia,: president stepping down after death threats, and PM shot, is just one of many events in Europe that are destabilizing the unity of Europe - it reminds me of those events in my history text books that led to WWI and WWII. But, it is not inevitable or foreordained. We must all look to the institutions that make Europe the envy of the rest of the world - much to do with the EU. Liberty, rule of law, sustainability, democracy and equality. We must challenge the narratives that have us fall apart and make us vulnerable. Resolve and solidarity in our diversity and freedom!

It’s a valid moment in American foreign police where the voters, not Congress must decide whether the America people would like to sustain our predecessors prioritization of foreign policy over domestic policy and this ofcourse will have its offsets if we were to decide to scale back American global presence but the reality is that if we remain as the global leader in mitigating conflict, we will undoubly be out in positions where we will be complicit in wrongdoings of other nations. If we want to take in this responsibilities that’s fine but at this point, just like it was the British who voted to leave the EU, the Americans must vote whether or not to diminish our embodiment of a global order presence. Maybe it’s time we focus on building ourself up.

The European Union’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, admitted that the “era of Western dominance has indeed definitively ended”. He warned that the EU must not divide the world into “the West against the Rest”, as “many in the ‘Global South’ accuse us of ‘double standards’”. Ben Norton analyzes the historic shift.

The goals set by the European Union might indeed seem contradictory, but in fact, they are designed to create a complementary and balanced structure. Considering the intersections and potential conflict points between these three goals could facilitate achieving them more comfortably. Charles Michel More Competitive Europe Goal: The aim of the EU becoming more competitive is to promote economic growth and innovation. However, unequal economic conditions among EU countries can lead some to be in more advantageous positions than others. This situation can fuel internal competition and cause some regions to lag behind. An equitable competition environment across the EU can be attempted through structural funds and policies. For example, structural funds and investments for less developed regions aim to increase competitiveness and achieve economic balance. More Defence-Ready Europe Goal: The EU's effort to enhance its defense capacity primarily aims to counter external threats, including from Russia, and ensure the security of its member states. However, this situation could also lead to an increase in militarization and armament policies, which might contradict a peaceful and democratic environment. Here, it is crucial for the EU to conduct its defense policies with transparency, democratic oversight, and within the framework of international law norms. Additionally, balancing defense strategies with diplomatic solutions could reinforce the EU's commitment to peaceful values. Freer and More Democratic Europe Goal: The goal of raising democratic standards and expanding freedoms plays a significant role in both domestic policies and international relations. However, strengthening defense policies and competitive economic structures can sometimes lead to governments taking harsh security measures or restricting economic freedoms. Therefore, managing these goals in a balanced manner is critical to demonstrate the EU's commitment to fundamental values and human rights. In conclusion, during the implementation of these three main goals of the EU, the policies need to be harmonious and supportive of each other. Minimizing potential conflicts and maximizing harmony among the goals can help the EU become a stronger and more effective actor both within its member states and on a global level. When these three goals are considered in an integrated manner, they can contribute to maintaining the EU as a more stable, secure, and prosperous region.
The EU faces massive challenges. We are putting the EU on more solid footing in 3 key areas: 1. A more competitive Europe 2. A more defence-ready Europe 3. A freer, more democratic Europe In Warsaw EU leaders discussed the next steps of our #StrategicAgenda for the years to come. Thank you, Donald Tusk for your warm welcome.
