Have you ever heard of colour correction? As a video producer in the past, I spent many hours in colourists' studios working with directors and DOPs on colour correction of video footage. More blue at the beginning when we show a problem and orange and yellow tones when we show the solution - it's a rule for commercials! These little colour tricks really change the audience's perception. So simple, but it works. So why can't I use it in real life? and I do. In the last month I have been using yellow glasses 80% of the time and it has really lifted my mood for the day. I cannot find any serious research on the subject, but from my own perspective it helps, especially when you are a founder and your mood is your company's mood.  #founderstrick #founderstories

"WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH DEMO REELS, AM I RIGHT?" As a writer-director, I've always found the creation of a demo reel rather daunting. For cinematographers it seems much more straight-forward: select your best shots, edit them together, and add some nice music. Your work speaks for itself. For actors, it's much the same: select your best moments, assemble them in a pleasing fashion, and call it a day. No need to even add music! But for a director, how do you show the many competencies required while hacking your work to bits in order to fit into a short 2-3 minutes? In the past I've made my director's reels much like a cinematographer's reel: show cool shots, best lighting and production value, maybe some nice "oners," no real dialogue, apply music, hope for the best. But it never felt like I was showing much of what I could actually do. While I'm totally not saying my new reel has solved that issue, I'm at least trying a different approach. This time around I've chosen 4 segments from various films I've directed and have squeezed them together, unedited (mostly). We get to hear the dialogue, sound effects, and music as they exist in the film. With each of the four segments I'm trying to show a different aspect of director competency. Maybe it'll make a difference, maybe not, but at least I feel like I'm better displaying my work in the minuscule 3 minutes allotted to me (okay, I went 16 seconds over, but I think that's fair enough, haha).
