iNEMI Low Temperature Solder Tech Topic Series: Electromigration in Tin-Bismuth Planar Solder Joints — Join us October 17 or 18 for the first webinar in our series on low temperature solder (LTS). This webinar will focus on results from Phase 1 of iNEMI’s Electromigration in SnBi Solder for Second-Level Interconnect project, which has developed a novel way to study electromigration in LTS such as eutectic SnBi. The novelty of the test structure and methodology used allows the metallurgical and electromigration phenomena to be directly and non-destructively observed while monitoring the resistance changes in the solder joints. This webinar will share the team’s observations and analysis of experiment results plus outline the next steps in experimentation. For additional information. https://lnkd.in/gmpj4WHc

Looking for innovative ways to enhance pipeline safety and reliability? We like to share INGU's recent post about a fascinating paper presented by Newmont at MineFill 2024, titled “In Situ Pipeline Data Monitoring.” This paper explores a case study using INGU’s innovative Pipers® instruments. These smart devices detect and pinpoint potential issues like leaks, deposits, and changes in wall condition, helping to prioritize maintenance and ensure pipelines remain safe and reliable. In this study, Pipers® monitored pipeline performance and identified wear and potential leaks in Newmont’s reticulation network. This information is particularly valuable as Pipers® can be launched through our pig valves, allowing users to collect data while employing safer and eco-friendly methods for launching and receiving pigs in pipelines. Thanks to Ryan Veenstra and the Newmont team for their hard work on this paper and for making this information available. For more details, check out the link in INGU’s post.
Newmont, one of our clients, recently presented a paper titled “In Situ Pipeline Data Monitoring” at MineFill 2024. The paper presents a case study using Pipers®, an in situ pipeline instrument. This instrument is actually a small cluster of instruments that monitor pipeline pressure, acceleration, rotation, magnetic flux, and acoustic emissions. These instruments are used to measure the flow behavior within the pipeline, as well as attempting to determine possible wear areas and determining potential leaks. We want to express our gratitude to Ryan Veenstra and the broader Newmont team for placing their trust in Pipers® and presenting this paper. * In situ observation of CO2 corrosion under high pressure: https://lnkd.in/dnqqHDsJ Abstract: Direct observation of corrosion phenomena under special environments is still a challenge. Here, we reported on an in situ method for CO2 corrosion imaging under high pressure. The simultaneously recording of the surface morphology changes and Fe ions release can clearly reveal the detailed process of CO2 corrosion from active dissolution to film deposition and pitting attack. It indicated that the cooperative initiation of corrosion pits was triggered by local environmental variations relating to an initial active dissolution of the steel surface. The result also suggested that stereomicroscope be a suitable method for directly observing corrosion phenomena in high pressure conditions.

PDF Nonmetallic Materials and Composites at Low Temperatures Guy K. White (auth.), Günther Hartwig, David Evans (eds.) digsell https://lnkd.in/eHbf63y3 This was the third meeting in the series of special topical conferences on Non-Metallic materials at low temperatures. The first meeting was in Munich in 1978, the second in Geneva (1980) and so Heidelberg 1984 seemed an obvious time to review some of the hopes and objectives of the earlier meetings. It is also appropriate to consider the changing needs of the cryogenic community and how best the theory and practice of Non-metallic materials can be applied to suit this dynamic young science. The aims and objectives of the International Cryogenic Materials Board in sponsoring this meeting remain the same. … Read More » https://lnkd.in/evJhPRDS
