all in on durable, transformative, reparative systems change | Forbes 50 > 50; 2020 Conscious Company World Changing Woman
Keyword: ask. Before you ask people to return to offices (or undertake any other significant initiative), ask yourself why. What are the critical features and benefits of having people onsite? What outcomes don't depend on people being physically present? In both cases, what do you need to do or provide as a leader to create the conditions for your employees to thrive? While you're at it, ask them, too. Worst case you spend a little bit of time to validate your preconceptions. But on the upside, you might be amazed at what you discover about just how innovative your organization could become.
It is no problem to ask people to return to their offices… But there are caveats. For the next 2 weeks, I will be sharing my thoughts on the ongoing contentious debate that pits our offices against our homes as practical places of work. Senior Learning Consultant @ Capita Learning | L&D Podcaster | Learning Cultures, Leadership Development
This 👇 I was part of a great Capita roundtable a few weeks ago with leaders from both public & private sectors and everyone agreed that our focus is often on the wrong things when it comes to the WFH debate. It's exactly what I spoke about in my Learning at Work Week talk on hybrid working - I'm yet to see strong evidence that people are less productive outside of the office, and the desire to enforce a numerical target for time in the office (typically 2-3 days) doesn't make sense. Surely we should bring people together based on outputs, not time. You can't arbitrarily push people into your offices for no clear reason and then be frustrated when people resent being there. Oh, and don't even get me started on the use of Gen Z / Millennials as the scapegoats in this debate... The link to my talk on this is below, including tips for moving toward an output focussed approach: https://lnkd.in/emTvyqpx

We are the growth arm of the real estate industry. We attract customers through content that builds trust and awareness. General contractors, architects, and brokers love us. Front Row Dad 🌀 Generalist 🚢 Writer
$300,000 This is the average income a family of four must make to live comfortably in the top 20 most expensive metros. It’s possible that I could move to any one of those metros in the next 2 years. (My wife will be a 3rd year medical student and there is always the possibility of moving for residency.) I’ve been grappling with how to 1. get my income up to $240,000 ($300,000 goal - average resident income $60,000), 2. be remote or have a flexible work option (kids get sick and schools have a ton of vacation days), and 3. find that in the commercial real estate/development industry (mostly because I like real estate and I’ve been gaining experience there).
