Small businesses are essential to facilitating growth and bringing unique services, food, and products to the commercial districts of Fort Worth. As a historic commercial corridor built on small business and it is part of Camp Bowie District's mission to support the small businesses in our corridor and seek out opportunities to assist in their development and sustainability. In partnership with American Express, the Backing Small Businesses grant program supports economically vulnerable and under-resourced small businesses with community reach and/or cultural significance. This year, eligible small business owners can apply for $10,000 grants for projects that grow or improve their businesses by building community, supporting their economic viability, or bolstering meaningful change. Of the 500 recipients selected for $10,000 grants, a limited subset of 25 recipients will be awarded $30,000 Enhancement Grants, which will allow those business owners the opportunity to create transformative change within their business and in their community (for example, by giving back, partnering with community members, addressing cultural, environmental and/or access needs in their community, opening a new location and/or adding staffing). Recipients of the $10,000 grant will be required to submit a final grant report using a template provided. In addition to questions regarding the completed project, the report will include prompts on how the business would use the $30,000 Enhancement Grant. The application process will end on April 7. If you are a small business owner or if you know a deserving small business that contributes to the local community and bolsters growth to local economic development, apply now for the Backing Small Business Grant. https://lnkd.in/g9qgvwjB #economicdevelopment #backingsmallbusiness

As we celebrate Small Business Week, we are delighted to highlight the South Florida Anchor Alliance (SFAA). The South Florida Anchor Alliance (SFAA) is a collaborative of regional institutions—hospitals and healthcare systems, education enterprises, and municipalities-coming together to harness their collective multi-billion-dollar spending power and vast human and intellectual capital to create a more just and inclusive local economy. In South Florida, across Miami-Dade and Broward Counties alone, public and non-profit, education, and health institutions spend over $10 billion a year procuring goods and services. Currently, only a small percentage of that goes to small, local, and minority-owned businesses. By shifting procurement, hiring, and investment practices in ways that benefit the local economy, anchor institutions can improve the economic well-being and security of the communities they serve in a big way! Led by Broward College, in partnership with Prospera and the Small Business Development Center, SFAA provides local small businesses with guidance and access to an ecosystem of resources to strengthen their capacity to do business with anchor members. The Small Business Capacity Building program, funded by the Health Foundation, is a two- step process. First, an online assessment. Co-developed by anchor members, the application tool determines the readiness of a small, local, diverse, women-owned and/or minority- owned businesses, based on a universal scoring profile. Readiness is based on the following categories: • Ready Now – able to submit a Bid • Ready Soon – minor resource needs • Not Ready Yet – will receive training • Not Ready – unable to meet standards Second, a Capacity Building Referral. Based on the outcome of the online assessment, Broward- based businesses are referred to the Small Business Development Center and Miami- Dade County based businesses are referred to Prospera for assistance in achieving next- level readiness. So far, the program has assessed 85 small businesses and referred 60 for technical assistance. Local, small businesses can use this link to assess their readiness to bid on RFPs on the SFAA regional marketplace. ➡https://lnkd.in/dqkiBTdJ Thank you to Anthea Pennant, Associate Vice President Advancement Services at Broward College, and all of the collaborators who have developed this program. #SouthFloridaAnchorAlliance, #HealthFoundationSouthFlorida
