Happy Juneteenth! Today, we honor Juneteenth, a significant day in American history. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of slavery, enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation issued two years earlier. This day symbolizes freedom and the ongoing journey towards equality. Juneteenth is not just a historical milestone but a celebration of African American culture, resilience, and contributions to society. It’s a time to reflect on our progress and the work that still needs to be done to achieve true equality. Juneteenth should be more widely celebrated because it reminds us of our collective history and the importance of freedom and justice for all. It’s a day to educate ourselves, engage in meaningful conversations, and take actionable steps towards creating an inclusive future. I encourage everyone to talk to their leadership about recognizing and celebrating Juneteenth in the workplace. Together, we can foster a culture of awareness, respect, and unity.
