Yes, national non-profits do important work, too, so leave a little for them if you can. But organizations in your zip code make an impact on your neighbors. So if you have a cause that's important to you - affordable housing, food access, hospice, art therapy, helping children with developmental disabilities, etc. - look for a non-profit where you live who is doing that work. I guarantee you that your donation, whether it's $5 or $5,000, will be received with a grateful heart and will help someone who just might be your neighbor, your co-worker, your friend, your family...
