Brazil can build on its diplomatic strengths to facilitate global cooperation and partnerships for clean energy. The country has a long history of fostering international collaboration, notably the 1992 Rio Summit, which delivered a new blueprint for international action on environmental and development issues including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Today, Brazil’s low-emissions energy sector and large resource base provide the right conditions for developing industrial clusters alongside other countries, which will be key for transitions to net zero emission
🗣 “Brazil is a frontrunner in clean energy transitions: among the world’s largest economies, it boasts the lowest share of fossil fuels in its energy mix” Our new commentary from IEA Analyst Tomás Bredariol looks at key opportunities for Brazil to lead the global energy & climate dialogue. 📢In case you missed it! Check out our contribution to a recent report exploring how to better engage residents of the North West of England with #NetZero - so the transition happens with them, not too them. 👀Find out more and read the report below 👇
How can we better engage residents of the North West of England with the #NetZero energy transition? This was the question posed to us by Mayors Andy Burnham (Greater Manchester) and Steve Rotheram (Liverpool City Region). As part of the Green Energy Task Force, which the mayors set up last year, we have produced evidence-based recommendations on how to engage residents so that the transition is done with them, not to them. 👀 Read our contribution to the report here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eunJb4NA Public engagement is particularly important for places like the North West, with a legacy of regional inequalities but also lots of potential to be a green energy superpower. As our work highlights, involving local communities is the best way to mitigate fears and bring people into the transition story and process. Local leaders must also build narratives that resonate with a diverse range of values and everyday concerns. The Green Energy Task Force is composed of The Green Britain Foundation, Climate Outreach and Co-operatives UK. Our contribution is part of a larger report (found here: https://lnkd.in/ePWbQzcN), which tells a clear story about the potential for and benefits of investing in a just transition in the North West, with lessons that will likely be of interest to other parts of the UK.

What lessons can Canada learn from efforts to move away from natural gas for new buildings in other parts of the world? On March 21, our director of policy Mathieu Poirier joins an expert panel to discuss what other jurisdictions are doing, what challenges they've run into, and how we can speed up the decarbonization of Canada's buildings.
Montreal, New York City, and Vancouver are the latest additions to a growing list of cities across North America banning natural gas in new buildings. Designed to combat rising building emissions by replacing oil and gas with zero-emission heating systems, the move has sparked both enthusiasm and outrage. Join us on March 21st as we discuss implications of a natural gas ban with: paul cheliak, VP of Strategy and Delivery at Canadian Gas Association Mathieu Poirier, Director of Policy at the Building Decarbonization Alliance Russell Unger, Principal of Carbon-Free Buildings at RMI. Congratulations and huge thanks to Taylor Chapman, Gabriel Malek and Deanna Zhang for their development and delivery of an incredible report on the state of Houston's Climate Tech Ecosystem. This report highlights the incredible growth our Houston ecosystem has seen in the last few years as well as its potential to really accelerate the energy transition. It also shines the light on some of our biggest challenges and offers very tangible actions to help Houston continue to grow as a hub of energy & climate tech innovation. Also, a big shoutout to HETI supporter and partner - Vinson & Elkins for helping produce and deliver this fantastic report. What excites me most about Houston's potential to lead the global transition to a low-carbon, energy abundant future is the passion of our people to show the world that Houston can and will remain the energy capital of the world - by working collaboratively across all sectors, segments, industries, and communities. #climatetech #energytransition #lowcarbonenergyabundantfuture https://lnkd.in/gqzhtWK4
