One of the many key decisions a company must make to be successful, is to be mindful of who speaks and interact with its customers, particularly in the first instance. It is crucial that these gatekeepers be highly engaged as employees. I was doing some shopping in one of the largest retailers shop in the UK, as the cashier was processing the items, i realised i need a stronger and larger shopping bag. I asked the cashier for the bag and she responded, " We no longer have those, they stopped coming, they decided to give you these cheap and weak ones for the same price so they can make more profit". sic. She said that with a silly grin on her face. She complained about other things. Strangely, she was fast in her service, quite cheerful and helpful, but she had no kind words for her employer. It got me thinking, what else is that retailer doing to make more profits. Apparently, this retailer is one of the few retailers that was under fire by the Parliament, with MPs grilling their executives on allegations of corporate greed. To be honest, the way that lady spoke ill of the practices at that retailer, i no longer trust anything they do, particularly cheap products they sell. my mind will be like, what if ? It was at that till, when i realised, employee engagement is an absolute necessity. #customerexperience #employeeengagement #corporategovernance #management
