We're excited to share our latest blog where we dive into the intersection of biodiversity and nature-based carbon projects 🐯 🌳 Beyond assessing project overlaps with protected areas and evaluating their ‘biodiversity attention’, we've been exploring ways to capture the biodiversity value these projects can offer. Despite some unreliability in carbon outcomes, nature-based projects can provide critical funding for protecting biodiversity hotspots and restoring disturbed ecosystems. This highlights the importance of considering biodiversity as a valuable co-benefit in these initiatives. In our search to find a reliable biodiversity value, we've embraced the concept of ‘ecological integrity’. This approach helps us generate preliminary insights into the potential and practical impacts of nature-based carbon projects. New metric for quantifying biodiversity in the US available One of the main reasons why biodiversity has not been considered separately in the past is the complexity of nature. In contrast to other ESG topics such as carbon footprint, there are only few representative indicators. I'm therefore very proud that my colleagues have developed a tool to quantify biodiversity at sites. We are delighted to present the first release of our new #BiodiversityMetric tool for the Americas. The new metric, developed with support and guidance from NatureServe, is a #free biodiversity quantification tool designed to measure the biodiversity value of sites across the Americas. This first release focuses on habitats in the Northeastern US including #NewJersey, #NewYork, and #Pennsylvania, with the anticipated release later this year of the remaining US and Canadian habitats. Click below to find out more and download the metric. Where else in the world would you like to see a new biodiversity metric? #LetsCloseTheGap #BiodiversityAccounting

I like this. Instead of just ensuring no net loss they are ensuring a net gain.
New developments must now offer a 10% net gain in biodiversity. The World Economic Forum has established the Biodiversity Credits Initiative which aims to drive investment towards nature and the communities that protect it. Learn more: https://ow.ly/sCpt50QQ6XN

🌍 IUCN is proposing an approach aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) that allows companies to set robust targets for species and ecosystems to halt and reverse nature loss by 2050 and ensure a healthier planet for generations to come. 🤝 Collaborative efforts are needed among governments, civil society organisations, individuals and the private sector. 💼 IUCN’s approach is initially focused on the contributions that the private sector can make. Companies have very substantial impacts on biodiversity but so far lack the means to identify, set and deliver targets for species and ecosystems in line with the goals and targets of the KMGBF. 🚨 IUCN's approach to Measuring Nature Positive is now open to consultation until 15 March: your participation and inputs are needed to refine the approach! Submit your feedback here. 👉 https://bitly.ws/3cDAq #NaturePositive #Biodiversity #Conservation

Thrilled to share the latest development in the UK's commitment to biodiversity preservation! The new Biodiversity law sets a groundbreaking standard for sustainable development by mandating developers to create habitats for wildlife. Under this law, projects must deliver a 10% increase in biodiversity and maintain it for 30 years. This initiative represents a significant step forward in safeguarding our planet's precious ecosystems. By integrating biodiversity considerations into development processes, we not only mitigate environmental impact but also foster healthier, more resilient communities. As advocates for UN SDG's, Sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship, it's heartening to see governments taking decisive action to protect biodiversity. Let's applaud this milestone and continue our collective efforts towards a greener, more sustainable future for all. Together, we can make a difference! #sdgs2030 #biodiversity #climateadaptation #climatefinance #climatechangesolutions #climatechange #regenerativeeconomy #greenbuilding #greeneconomy

The construction sector is amongst the worlds most polluting industries. Any building site destroys nature (no matter what the glossy brochures suggest). The economics of nature has front loaded financial benefits that accrue to a few (landowners, builders, contractors, materials industry, banks etc) and a long tail of costs that effect us all over an extended period of time (pollution, biodiversity loss, ground water impact, health etc). This new legislation of Biodiversity Net Gain by the UK Government is a step in the right direction. Hopefully countries across the world will accelerate the adoption of nature positive legislation. The need of the hour is to strike a fine balance between economics and ecology! Ultimately it is our responsibility to demand such actions from builders and legislators. If nature matters to you, make your vote and wallets count! #biodiversitynetgain #sacredgroves
