We're counting down the days until the start of TReND in Africa's neuroscience workshop in Rwanda! Saskia de Vries from the Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics is part of an Allen Institute team making the journey to Carnegie Mellon University Africa. Alongside other experts, she'll be showing students how to access and analyze our open science resources. The mission of TReND (Teaching and Research in Natural Sciences for Development in Africa) is to support biomedical research in Africa by giving African researchers the tools and expertise to advance their own research goals. During the last Latin American Workshop on Computational Neuroscience (IV LAWCN - https://lawcn.co/), it was presented the current BCI research production in LATAM, where the authors highlighted several gaps and difficulties among our countries. One outcome of this meeting was the need for a BCI network in our continent. Therefore, the BCI LATAM Community was created to share opportunities and information related to BCI for LATAM researchers. If you want to be part of the mailing group (daily digest), please subscribe at the next link. You can post in English, Spanish, and Portuguese just by emailing through the group. Please, spread the word to potential collaborators, thus making our community grow. https://lnkd.in/ewyJmS3d Finally, considering this context, the next survey (English or Spanish max duration 3 min) will be the basis for diagnosing the current situation of our community, so please fill up Survey [en]: https://lnkd.in/eRNNZPfj Survey [sp]: https://lnkd.in/ehQedt9G Thanks!

🧠 Did you know that Bayesian networks are increasingly being applied in the realm of Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI)? 📄 Using Bayesian Networks in Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) research is becoming more common. The increasing use of Bayesian Networks in Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) research marks a significant trend. This survey provides a comprehensive overview of related studies, systematically classifying the models and algorithms in use. To learn more about this, check out the paper below: 🔗https://lnkd.in/d4JBQZ8e 🖋️ Author: Pingsheng Li #braincomputerinterface #bayesian #BayesianNetworks #machinelearning #neuroscience #BCIResearch #datascience #learningbayesianstatistics #researchpaper #survery

#Bayesian networks are a great way to investigate complex, interrelated constructs (like #psychosocialhazards) using entire distributions 📈 (rather than point estimates like the mean) to account for uncertainty. Think of it like using the whole lemon 🍋: not just the juice 🥤 but candying the peel, too 🍬! They have a range of applications, including with #timeseries. Check out this paper if you'd like to learn more.

Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field, combining a dizzying number of subjects from engineering and computer science to developmental biology. The goal is to understand how our brain and nervous system determine how we think, feel, and act. So where do we stand in that quest? How is the brain organized, and can it be understood as a sum of its parts? In this 3-hour neuroscience crash course, we will address these questions by learning the fundamentals of neuroanatomy and neuroplasticity. Register today: https://loom.ly/6IrxbNY

How do you conduct scientific research and deliver a lecture with sirens in the background? It is definitely a unique and challenging situation. And just like in the lab - safety comes first. Here are just two examples of two of Sagol’s researchers from the last couple of days: Dr. Tali Ilovitsh, Senior Lecturer at the Sagol School of Neuroscience and the Department of Biomedical Engineering, TAU. Dr. Ilovitsh was selected as one of three promising early career scientists and gave a lecture during Rising Scientists in Therapeutic Ultrasound Special Session by the International Society of Therapeutic Ultrasound. She had an audience of hundreds of participants from all over the world. Dr. Ido Tavor, Senior Lecturer at the Sagol School of Neuroscience and the Faculty of Medicine, TAU. Dr. Tavor gave a lecture as part of a series of lectures by the Sagol School of Neuroscience, which was open to the public. Dr. Tavor spoke about advanced research being done in his laboratory, which investigates the connections between the structure of the brain, function and behavior. In both cases, alarms were activated during the lectures, due to regional missile attacks. Both Tali and Ido communicated the situation to the audience, stopped their lecture, evacuated themselves to a protected area during the alarm (which is activated when there is a missile attack on the area), waited the required time according to the safety instructions, and returned to continue the lectures in the most professional way. This is the reality in Israel. We are full of appreciation and respect for our researchers, who continue to conduct advanced scientific research alongside trying to maintain a personal and professional life in this challenging time of war. We wish for better and quieter days, for the safe return of all the hostages, and for the safe return of all the soldiers. On the last day of Hanukkah, the holiday of light, we hope that the light will soon overcome the darkness. חג שמח.
