This week's featured hero is Kaela Cruz! #SarcomaAwarenessMonth Kaela is a brave young woman and a beacon of hope to everyone who crosses her path. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma just before her 5th birthday. Kaela began treatment at the Bristol Myers Squibb Children's Hospital in May 2007 and had an above-the-knee amputation of her left leg. Meeting with the team of doctors and specialists, along with the barrage of blood tests, X-rays, MRIs and CT scans, was overwhelming. However, she made it through, and her health is doing great! Kaela had the honor to speak and share her story at an ALSF special event to raise awareness about childhood cancer and the need for more funding. Through the generosity of several donors, an osteosarcoma research grant was funded in her name. She is now an A college student with a vibrant social life and a scuba certification! She and her family are so proud of all the progress she's made. Read more about Kaela's story > https://lnkd.in/eKQxJ3dC

I am amazed by how many of my fellow Allspringers have joined the Expect Miracles Foundation - Financial Services Against Cancer distance challenge in 2024 – we are at 434 Strong! It is a cause close to my heart, taking my dad way to early. It is designed to make a difference where 100% of participant-raised dollars through the Distance Challenge goes to cancer research as well as financial assistance for young adult cancer survivors. I can appreciate how many of us have our specific charities, and that is totally understandable. …so here’s my simple ask: Just “like” this post. That’s all. No strings attached. I have > 4k contacts on LinkedIn and if just 25% of those contacts “likes” this post, it will then go to all of their contacts also….think of the awareness campaign that we will create to fight this awful disease with the much needed research that the worlds best scientists are working on now. I am a firm believer that together we can make a difference. (…If you want to make a donation, terrific- here’s my link, but if you just “like” this post, we’ll accomplish a lot also!!) https://lnkd.in/eZzWrxpF (Here I am crushing a ride with #CodyRigsby on my #Peleton reppin’ in my Expect Miracles Foundation - Financial Services Against Cancer gear!!) I show parents, professionals, entrepreneurs & business owners how to protect their family & business, so that they are content knowing that they’re taken care of should something happen to them.
On this Giving Tuesday, please try to give back somehow if you’re able to do so. For me, it was a no brainer to contribute to the following cause, the Z103.5 FM Radiothon benefitting the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Since being diagnosed with cancer in November 2021, I’ve worked closely with a team at Mount Sinai, which is affiliated with Princess Margaret. Together, they’re doing wonderful work along with the other UHN hospitals to help cancer patients become cancer survivors. Those of you who know me well know how much I love music. I take a break daily to crank up the way back lunch &/or the Drive at 5 on 103.5, as music instantly improves my mood regardless of the day that I’m having. If you can give financially, many charities need the support now more than ever. If you’re not able to give financially, then there are other ways to give back as well, such as giving your time. Many charities depend on the assistance of volunteers, especially during the holiday season. https://lnkd.in/gkKFN5cG #investinyourself #protection #familyfirst #entrepreneur #businessowner #support #advice #planning #strategy #professional #grandparents #parents #parent #investing #investment #givingtuesday #givingback #charity #charitablegiving #charitysupport

Today, on rare disease day, I found myself sat with a group of incredibly courageous parents and grandparents who have journeyed a cancer diagnosis of their child. It’s been a honour to hear their own unique stories and how Alice’s Arc has created such a community for them. Children’s cancer is rare, yet the most common cause of death by disease in children. Like many other rare diseases very little is known about it and this is one of the most devastating challenges for families, as we have heard today. Also in the room today were researchers from University of Birmingham who are determined to give hope to these families and many others. They are working tirelessly to find answers to ‘why did my child develop cancer’, ‘will CAR-T cell therapy work for my child’, ‘how can we make treatment less harsh’ and many more questions. The collective power of the parents, researchers and generous charitable funders, such as all of those ‘arcs’ listed below, Sara Wakeling (Craddock), LifeArc, The Little Princess Trust , Children with Cancer UK, The Azaylia Foundation as well as many others, is extraordinary and we at Birmingham are so grateful for the way they have stood up, spoke out and generously supported research to make a change. It’s days like today that remind me of why I do what I do, and why making a difference for the few is as important as for the many. #rarediseaseday2024 #rarediseases #rarediseaseday #birminghaminaction #university #universityofbirmingham #collaboration #gratutide #charity #philanthropy

Miracles start with a belief in the impossible. After relapsing twice, Emily Whitehead’s doctors gave her just weeks to live. Refusing to give up, her parents enrolled Emily in a clinical trial where she became the first pediatric patient to receive CAR T-cell therapy. It was her only chance at survival, and it worked. Now a college student, Emily has remained cancer-free and is considered cured. Her miraculous journey from patient to survivor is featured in the award-winning documentary “Of Medicine and Miracles,” available to stream for a limited time. Make More Miracles Watch online. Then give so more patients like Emily can live. The purchase of a ticket to watch “Of Medicine and Miracles” does not benefit the Foundation. We invite you to match your ticket purchase (or give more generously) with a donation to the Foundation. Your gift will help us support families fighting childhood cancer and raise awareness and funding for advanced therapies like immunotherapy. https://lnkd.in/ekGjBkNR Jolt Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System Stand Up To Cancer Children's Hospital of Philadelphia The Parker Foundation Robin Honan Ross Kauffman #OfMedicineandMiracles #DrCarlJune #EmilyWhitehead #BreakthroughAward #CancerResearch #LeukemiaTreatment #CARTherapy #MedicalMiracle #HealthcareHeroes #ScienceAndHope #BreakthroughInCancerCare #PediatricLeukemia #CARTcell #SU2C

I have ran 1000km out of 2400km on a mission to raise awareness around Testicular Cancer and the importance of men’s health. Testicular cancer affects an average of 2400 men in the UK annually, yet there is still a lack of knowledge surrounding this disease, especially among young men aged 15 to 39. Early detection is key in the successful treatment of testicular cancer. By spreading awareness and encouraging regular self-examinations and check-ups, we can increase the chances of timely intervention and save lives. Let's unite in the fight against testicular cancer. Together, we can make a difference and prioritize men's health. #RaiseAwareness #MensHealth #TesticularCancer #HealthAwareness #havethegutstocheckyournuts #construction #running

🎗️ Childhood cancer is a heartbreaking reality in Australia, with 3 families receiving the devastating news "your child has cancer" each week. Tragically, 3 kids lose their lives to this disease every week as well. The statistics are alarming, and awareness about this issue is still limited. 🙏 That's why we are reaching out for your support in our mission to find better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for childhood cancer. 🌟 Our flagship national Peer-to-Peer campaign, The Better Challenge, is scheduled for September, coinciding with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This year, we are introducing a unique and inclusive approach - the 90 KMs ANY WAY challenge. Participants can row, run, cycle, walk, skateboard, climb, swim, or get creative with their method to achieve 90KMs. Each KM represents the 90 kids who will be diagnosed with cancer during the month. 💪 Sign up your organisation today and join us in this life-changing initiative and help make a difference in the lives of these brave children and their families. Together, we can raise awareness, funds, and hope for a brighter future. 👉 To learn more about The Better Challenge and how you can get involved, click the link below.
