We'll come to a world where we are not monitoring tests but dealing with a continuous wearable device. Modern LIMS are not fully prepared for this. The data from the device in the described case is supposed to be used to calculate the drug dose, and this implies a very high responsibility: we have to apply online calibration. That is the responsibility of the producer who made the device, unlike laboratories with their independent control. 𝗖𝗗𝗖 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 with all the clear and transient goals, such as interoperability and the desire to use data for public health. We've gotten that experience in #Covid and are now creatively reworking it. However, the overall tone of this document suggests that we don't yet know how to use each institution's data to improve the system. We don't yet have a precise, correct, and beautiful model. But the strategy emphasizes the CDC's continuing efforts, and that's a thing for labs. Some treat these reports as pesky flies because they don't directly benefit them. But the good of the public and patients, health care done right, is a serious benefit to the lab. During the last few years, we have realized how important it is to provide access to training for laboratory workers. Situations arise where new things need to be learned quickly - like in covid. The CDC program has summits, videos, accessible courses, and many other resources. Based on this, labs can plan training for their staff. Fancy you would plan free training in LIMS and promote it based on exactly what is on top for your lab, and then measure the completion of those courses. Professor Carol Greider, who has been studying telomeres for more than 30 years and, along with two colleagues, won the #Nobel Prize for it in 2009, did new research and found something ground-breaking: “Instead of telomere lengths falling under one general range of shortest to longest across all chromosomes, this study finds that different chromosomes have separate end-specific telomere-length distributions. According to Greider, this discovery means we don’t fully understand the molecular process that regulates telomere lengths. Therefore, we are to learn something more about aging. The discovery is driven by the change in the way of data analysis. It would be great to apply such perseverance to other health informatics, namely #LIMS development.
