This year, I once again watched the spectacle of Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2024 unfold with awe. Though I wasn't able to attend in person, I’ve been kept up to date by Ella Butler, my social feeds and of course, the BizBash annual round up from Claire Hoffman - which never fails to highlight best in class. Here’s five key activations that really stood out for me: 1.⁠ ⁠Pinterest Manifestival: Pinterest's transformation of the Carlton Beach Club into a real-life version of their digital platform is always a pleasure to behold. They nailed it again this year! 2.⁠ ⁠LinkedIn: The Place to B2B: LinkedIn's clever play on words perfectly encapsulated their activation's purpose. They took over three floors of the Carlton hotel, to create a hub for professional connections and creativity. 3.⁠ ⁠Meta Beach: Meta's focus on connections and the possibilities of their technology was expertly executed. The standout Reels Cinema, emerging from the sand was such a great idea. Nice work Jack Morton Worldwide! 4.⁠ ⁠Spotify Beach: Spotify's round-the-clock activation hub was a masterclass in blending thought leadership with entertainment. 5.⁠ ⁠Netflix: The giant Netflix 'N' towering over the Croisette is now a Cannes Lions staple, serving as a constant reminder of the streaming giant's presence. Their rooftop takeover, featured vignettes inspired by their most popular shows. Another incredible experience by Seen Presents. Did anyone meet our Squid Game actors, by the way? A huge shout out to ALL the brand ambassadors, event managers, and support staff who are the unsung heroes of Cannes Lions, ensuring that every interaction leaves a lasting impression. FOR ADWEEK: I've been covering brand activations and marketing stunts happening at the Sundance Film Festival, which began in Park City on Thursday and will continue film screenings in other locations and online until this Sunday. What were brands doing at the festival? - DoorDash and Wavemaker created a pop-up convenience store and gave away free essential items, hot chocolate, snacks... And some VIP gifts. DoorDash consumer brand marketer Lauren Schrimmer talked with me about why it activated at the festival & how the pop-up is an extension of DoorDash's new "Your Door to More" campaign with Wieden Kennedy. I noticed it was busy throughout the event, with as many as 50 people at a time waiting in line. - Digital wine retailer Sommsation took over Old Town Cellars, a popular winery on Park City Main Street. Marketing director Lindsey Mericka and ROXSTAR ENTERTAINMENT LLC's David B. Manning talked me through how the new online wine marketplace will connect with consumers as a "wine experience company." Pop-ups like the one at Sundance are key to helping its target audience understand the brand's messaging. There's more on this in the story. - Film producer Peter Kuplowsky, IFC and Shudder pulled off a marketing stunt on Main Street to advertise the new Sundance horror movie 'In a Violent Nature.' It involved making and distributing fake Wanted posters depicting the killer in the movie. Then, actor Ry Barrett reprised his role as slasher villain Johnny and walked around the festival. Some volunteers apparently thought the posters were real, and flagged down local police when they saw the actor (see the video in the story.) - Sponsors Chase, Audible, Adobe, Acura, Dropbox, Canon Inc., United Talent Agency, Cotopaxi, Mark Anthony Group (White Claw), Shutterstock and United Airlines each took over businesses on Main Street and created branded lounges or pop-ups, where they hosted their own events throughout the festival's opening week. The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has announced the launch of LIONS Creators. A new experience taking place on 18–20 June during the week of Cannes Lions, this dedicated forum will include a curated mix of exclusive learning and networking experiences for creators and those working in the wider creator economy. In 2023, Goldman Sachs analysts estimated that the creator economy was a $250bn industry and could reach $480bn by 2027. Simon Cook CEO, LIONS, said: “With potential growth of this scale, it’s crucial that the Festival plays a role in bringing together the platforms, the brands, the creators and the agencies, and a wider cross-section of the industry to have the most pressing conversations around how we co-create, collaborate and unlock greater value and progress for the wider industry in this space.” https://lnkd.in/eqzmZ6Dx

It's easy to get caught up in the hype of reach and headline CPM comparisons. But let's face the facts—those metrics don't tell the whole story. When it comes to making a lasting impact, it’s about outcomes. It’s about making your brand famous. And that’s where cinema takes the lead role.   We recently partnered with Fiftyfive5, part of Accenture Song to understand what effect AV channels have on delivering brand equity. Two surveys were conducted via a multi-channel study and an in field pre and post cinema testing study. The results were clear; cinema is undeniably powerful in delivering on multiple brand equity and ad performance metrics.   This is cinema's promise: 1 cinema spot delivers the same level of brand fame as 10 spots on digital, 9 spots on BVOD, and 6 spots on linear TV.   Including cinema on your media plan not only elevates the overall effectiveness of the campaign but also helps in painting a more compelling brand story across multiple channels, cinema creates a holistic and memorable brand experience that audiences are more likely to talk about and engage with.   The results show that cinema builds on what both online and TV exposure deliver, with the most powerful impact coming from the combination of all channels – creating a 20 per cent uplift over digital in isolation and 13 per cent uplift over TV and digital in combination.   Read the latest from our Managing Director Guy Burbidge on Mi3Australia via the link below. #ValMorgan #Mi3 #CinemaMakesYourBrandFamous
